Hey guys the wife and I are taking a late anniversary trip to Baton Rouge in March. I know Baton Rouge seems like a weird anniversary get away but it’s just far enough away for us to make a weekend of it plus I already had tickets to the LSU vs Bama basketball game for that weekend. Looking for a nice but not pretentious steakhouse. Price isn’t my concern as much as just not ending up at a place that is a little to upscale with pretty/artistic food and tiny portions. My wife really dislikes those types of places and will let me know about it lol. So a nice steak/seafood restaurant with good/straight forward food. My brother who lives in BR really likes Sullivan’s. And we are from North La so Doe’s is a no she isn’t a fan even though it’s one of my favorites lol

I had to edit my post to include the part about doe’s but I will definitely look into the other 3. Never been to Ruth Chris but I’ve been interested in trying it

Y’all have fun.

If I'm going to a steakhouse in BR, I'm going to Ruth's Chris. Portions are a fine size and sides are plenty large enough to share. Even the salads can be split and they will do that for you if you ask.

Yeah and I love Doe’s but my wife had 1 bad experience there when I took her for the first time. I was excited to take her to one of my favorite restaurant and it was just a bad experience all around. The only time I’ve ever had one there.

I have one experience from Sullivan's so take it for what it's worth, but I don't think their steaks are worth the money. I ordered medium rare and the steak came out overcooked. I usually don't complain much but when I'm dropping 50+ bucks for a steak, I'd like it cooked right. The second one came out overcooked also. I ate it, paid the bill and have never been back. I thought the quality of the meat was just okay, but maybe thats because it was overcooked. Also, there was barely any other people dining when I went there and the service was slowwwww.

If you are in town for Merchant's steaknight, that may be an option. I've never tried their steaks but they look legit and its a good atmosphere. I'm sure someone on this board has a review for their steaks.

When it comes to just the steak and sides, Ruth Chris is your best option in my opinion.

Ruth Chris is still my go to, a little pricey for dinner but cheaper options at lunch, their side dishes are plentiful and really good as well
There is a Fleming's as well but not my choice

Ruth’s Chris for sure.

Sullivan’s pales in comparison.

Bravo totally nailed it. It's criminal that they try to pass off their steaks as prime. What a joke.

Ruth's Top Choice
Flemings Distant Second

Stab's might be an option, I've never been but people that I've talked to about it didn't trash it.

Ruth's is the best but it is one of the nicer restaurants in BR. I'm sure people wear jean's there but if you do, the waitstaff will be dressed nicer than you. It's a white table cloth restaurant.

Just judging from your post, I'd probably send you to Louisiana Lagniappe. It's a seafood restaurant but they have a couple of steaks on the menu. It's a nice restaurant but definitely a notch lower than Ruth's and the food is excellent.

Thanks and yeah looking for a nice dinner but not one where anything less than slacks and jacket makes me underdressed. We will be going out after and want to be semi comfortable

Slacks and a jacket are more than good for any restaurant in BR.

You are right to skip out on Doe's in BR. The Doe's in Monroe is head and shoulders better than the Baton Rouge Doe's.

Here's the dress code. Keep in mind, people eat there often after LSU games and they aren't particularly dressed up. I've seen plenty of jeans and sports shirts.

Dress Code

BUSINESS CASUAL

PROPER ATTIRE REQUIRED PLEASE

We ask that you kindly remove your hat when entering the restaurant.

Thank you for not wearing: Tank tops, clothing with offensive graphics or language, torn garments, exposed undergarments, cut-off shorts, beach flip flops or gym wear.

That’s not a bad idea with Louisiana Lagniappe since my wife isn’t a huge steak person to begin with but loves seafood and pasta. Would you suggest Louisiana Lagniappe over Parrain’s?

For sure. LL & Parrains are not the same level.

Steak - Ruth’s 100%
If not Ruth’s, LL is a great choice

You might want to look at Mansur's. Their chargrilled oysters are terrific. You can sit at a table in the bar, if you want a more casual setting, and watch them grill the oysters there.

Louisiana Lagniappe by far. Also if you are considering non-steakhouse's Ill recommend Rouj Creole, the food there is fantastic and the atmosphere is exactly what you're looking for.

I went a couple of weeks back and there were more people in yoga pants/sweats/jeans than in slacks. Times are a changin
