I was looking through the site and it seems to have some good deals on knives. They look to be better or at least as good as knives you can get from williams sonoma/sur la table etc etc.
Any recommendations? I liked a Sakai Takayuki.... not a bad price for $149 LINK

jesus MD has really been a prick as of late
last knife I bought was a Victorinox chef's knife that was on sale for $25 on Amazon. this was back in January after somebody posted about it here.

i've read good things about some of the victorinox knives as well.... kind of wanted to lean towards a japanese style though. I have an old 6" and 8" zwilling, but they are old and the ol lady has beat them up.

I assume you know about all of the major brands so I won't go there with you. There is one brand that I would suggest entering a web search for what pops up. The name is Sabatier a French manufacture of damn good knives for a very long time. They are carbon steel so they get and keep a nice edge rather easily(wet stone). A very light coat of oil after use and cleaning is all that is required/highly suggested at the end of a day with them.
ETA keep the wifey away from any cutlery in your kitchen over a butter knife.

If you're looking for a Japanese knife, I like Masahiro. I've used this website a couple of times.

Shun is the top of the line
ehhh.... i really like some of shun's stuff, but top of line is stretching it a bit. Unfortunately for me, I like the Kaji line the williams sonoma has. fits my hand well. just not into paying $400 for a chefs knife. Or taking a loan out for something like a Kramer.

I have been looking at Japanese knives too and found some helpful reviews here. LINK

The problem I'm finding is that some of the japanese knives have just a single edge. Which helps in their sharpness, but also something i'm not willing to deal with. Which is why i liked the one I linked at the top.
