Besides a great French bread to sop up all the sauce, what is a good side that goes well?

We always go with a salad to keep it light. Need to save room for sauce soaked bread.

I like to do buttered pasta (spaghetti) with Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper.

What this man said. The BBQ shrimp, if fixed right is very rich and then soaking up the liquid with French bread makes it very filling, so a light salad is ideal.

We usually go with a salad and it usually has some fruit like strawberries or orange pieces in it to cut the richness of the meal a bit and give you some fresh bright bites. Look for Sassy's Salad in the TD cookbook. We usually go that route or similar.

Corn on the cob. Straight in that butter

any side you serve with bbq shrimp takes up room better used by the sopped French bread. So I vote no sides

Another reason we go with a light salad, but I don't "need" a side.

Nothing remotely resembling anything bbq.
A skillet, shitload of butter, lemons, and woster will get you headed in the right direction
