There are a couple I have not been to...

I can save people time on the supermarkets...Ideal markets are the best...I go to the one on Broad about once a week.

nice list afreaux.

besides the number of honduran and salvadoran places, the names of some of the mexican places (like jalisco and chilangos) look like they have a regional orientation that favors central/southern mexico or mexico city cuisine. is that the case in louisiana?

mexican food in arizona is primarily sonoron cuisine, but you guys look like you might have a little more regional variety.

Which one does the best fish tacos? shrimp tacos? Best Veracruz fish?

Loved the Jalisco and Mariscos joints in and around Austin and H-Town.

Not really. I can pick three restaurants in BR that have owners from Veracruz, Guerrero, and Nuevo Leon, respectively. All three would have identical menus, and tacos with meat prepared in the same style.

Once in a while, you'll come across a taqueria that specializes in Mexican cuisine from a particular region. But for the most part, I think they just want to ensure that patrons from any state in Mexico would be satisfied.

I'll occasionally find a place that serves nopales (cactus), but that doesn't mean that more than a handful of patrons would even want to order it.

nopal juice has been getting popular like noni,etc..for the last few decades..

How do the Mexican folks like it prepared? Cold or cooked? how do you like it Freaux? Any BR joints have a good dish with it?

I don't head back to the hometown all that much, so I mostly eat at BR taco shops.

You can buy a jar of nopales at more than a few Latin grocery stores in town. I don't remember which restaurants in town serve them anymore, only because I haven't had them in year. They just didn't strike me as anything special.

I'm sure if some guy grew up in a Mexican desert, he'd be all about them

Word.

Didn't see Taqueria D.F. on your list. 3 locations in New Orleans, I usually go to the one where Claiborne becomes Jefferson Hwy.

You should also add:

Felipe's Taqueria
(504) 267-4406
French Quarter
301 N Peters St
New Orleans, LA 70130
www.felipesneworleans.com

I've had it a few times, and it is good, cheap, and at a good location.

he is going with traditional mexican taquerias, not burritto places though. Felipe's is definitely the best of the bunch (Moe's, Izzo's and the like) in the state IMO though

There are a few places that I forgot to add, I'll be sure to update the list.

That's why I didn't list Felipe's. Not that it's not a good place, but yeah, it's a chain with locations in places like Harvard Square. Not exactly a restaurant where you see guys with paint all over their clothes
