I guess I didn't realize these hotels drove such high nightly rates.

Yeah it’s surprising. I understand around Mardi Gras, but there still isn’t much Convention/Business travel happening.
Maybe some wired market thing is happening with hotels deciding that if they don’t have a full staff they are just going to set a minimum price

Boutique hotels are pricey on their own

Most hotels with restaurants are either boutiques, or high end places

My advice, find a air bnb

I am in both the Windsor and Four Seasons every week.

I love the Windsor, but the Four Seasons is on another level across the board.

Both can have a drunk Latoya, so you have that going for you.

Some friends of mine that are in the industry spent a weekend at the Four Seasons recently. They raved about it.

How is the bar area and is anything on the outside of the building open yet?

Its in my top 3 bars in the city. Prepare yourself for 20-24 per cocktail though.

Spa not ready yet and pool will be open when it is warmer.

Chemin is open. I will be going soon. Miss River has been great both times I went.

I thought the lobby bar was sort of lame, ESPECIALLY with the prices and the stupid velvet rope. I liked the place upstairs, though.

Four Seasons bar is where you go to be “seen”. Kind of a douchy, Instagram crowd there when I went over Christmas. Also ate a Chemin, the electricity went completely out multiple times on our dinner. There are blank spaces on the wall behind the bar where a TV would go.. wires protruding out the wall and all. Food was good but nothing exciting, service was inattentive but who isn’t right now

Polo Lounge is 1 of 1 as far as hotel bars go in the city imo. Nothing matches it’s ambiance

Bingo, and I know cocktail prices are elevated for the location but it's still laughably overpriced. You aren't getting Cure quality but twice the price tag. Comes with the territory I guess. Places like that certainly have their appeal but doesn't sound like what OP wants. Fwiw I would definitely go back to Miss River.

Isn’t that the place with $30 red beans?

I have limits. Guess I won’t be going there anytime soon unless someone else is paying.

never got them so I don't know if that's internet hyperbole or not. The food was marked up but not ridiculously so. The Quail Egg salad was something like 17 which isn't that crazy considering the quality. But more to your underlying point, I'd rather overpay for quality food from a chef I like than overpay for a rushed cocktail. Roosevelt is another one with $20 cocktails. Those places have their time and place but I'd rather go to Hotel Peter Paul or Bar Merilou sort of place with a better vibe.

I’ve heard a few people make noise abt the infamous $32 red beans and rice, lol. I wonder if these same people get upset over a $18 po-boys from Domilise’s

So that’s where that came from. I never saw it on the menu except for as a traditional side and it definitely wasn’t $30 or close to it. Her post also mentions (barely) it came with fried chicken so she’s being misleading focusing on the red beans . Kind of an extreme take from Ms Gaudin.

Either way yes it’s going to be marked up being the nature of a luxury hotel, I would just rather pay for marked up food I like(which was not all that expansive at the end of the day) versus 20 bucks for a martini.
