Why does this offend the most uppity among us? I, for one, appreciate it.

Some us are mature enough to not get a pack of colors with our menu.

Probably because they've been so disappointed many times when going to McDonald's and Burger King and the picture on the overhead menu doesn't come close to what is put on the tray...............

I do this.

Don't go to the restaurant's Insta though, especially if it's a hot spot in a big city. Just go to where people have tagged the restaurant's location. You'll get some solid pics of food but it's fricking gold if looking at women dressed like high end hookers is your thing.

So you prefer the cursive description with no price listed at "Swig and Swine" or "Tavern and Table" or whatever "xxx and xxxx" trendy restaurants you frequent.

Yep. Much more enjoyable dining experience. That's what your waiter is for, you know they usually ask you if you have any questions.

Reminds me of low-quality mexican restaurants. And the pictures are usually printed in the lowest quality possible on plain paper.

If you order anything but pancakes at the International House of Pancakes, that's on you.

I think every major city has a variant of “butcher and baker”

Atlanta's got like 100 of them.

"Hock and Rail" because they have pork and they are by some train tracks, see?

"Glass and Fork" because they have a bar and a kitchen, see?

"Goat and Grape" because they have birria and a somolier on weekends, see?

And those are ones I just now made up.

I hear that “you eat with your eyes” first, so the fear that a consumer could be disappointed twice(eyes & then taste) is probably sufficient reason not to…

I was in South Korea about 10 years ago. First time trip, went to eat with some co-workers and I couldn't read a damn thing.

I point to something on the menu and the little Korean waitress said it was chicken fingers. I thought, that's not so bad, I'll have that.

She brought back fricking chicken feet.

Pictures can help in certain situations.

It helps when your speech is slurred.

I was in Japan 30+ years ago. Off the beaten path where nobody spoke English. Went into a restaurant, the waiter spoke no English and of course I could not read the menu at all.
Fortunately, the place had wax models of its dishes in the front window (as was apparently the custom there). I beckoned the waiter outside, pointed to what I wanted, he smiled and nodded.
So, occasionally this sort of thing serves a purpose.
