Which is better, Poche’s or Johnson’s Bucanaire?

Poche's for me. Soul Haus on Congress and Ambassador is great too.

Traveling from Tupelo ms to Houston Monday. Should be around Lafayette about lunch time. I’ve eaten at Poche’s before. Is Laura’s in Lafayette?

Laura's (a/k/a Laura's Two) is in Lafayette at 1904 West University. But I'm pretty sure it's closed on Monday as is Johnson's. In Lafayette, you could try T-Coon's.

Poche's (in Breaux Bridge) is very good as is Charlie T's. Glenda's is probably the best plate lunch place in Breaux Bridge.

ETA: Poche's Monday menu= Smothered Beef, Pork Backbone Stew, Baked Chicken, Crawfish Etouffee, Red or White Beans and Sausage.

Look up Glenda's Creole Kitchen facebook to see what they have that day. Also, call ahead because they run out of menu items quickly. (It's a small, old house with the serving counter in front and kitchen in back - it's not full size restaurant.)

They're both different. I like Poche's if I'm near BB and want crawfish etoufee, smothered pork chop, or a catfish dinner. Poche's is similar to Dwyers (see below). Johnson's has awesome boudin, but the lunch plate menu is more smoked meat/BBQ foods. Kinda depends on the food taste mood I'm in

FYI - don't sleep on T-Coon's as the food is also very good with eye candy waitresses.

IMO, it's hard to beat Dwyer's downtown as they have lots of food options, you get a huge plate, and it's very affordable compared to other establishments today. Ate their last week and my bill was $12 with tax.

I was about to suggest that even if you mentioned going there before.

I suggest you stop at Poche's and get that with white rice with all that roux gravy, with the meat falling off the bone, and a couple of sides. You won't have to go into Lafayette, as its not far off I-10 to stop, eat and get back on your journey.

Ate there about 10 days ago as I'm good friends with Floyd Poche, before I flew back to Abu Dhabi a few days ago. I actually made some pork backbone stew yesterday for some friends who are from US and live in Abu Dhabi. Was just like Poche's!

Search Facebook for "The Lunch Box," to see what they are serving that day.

Poches to me is an always can’t miss. You can find something you’ll like. The Smothered Rabbit is the best I’ve found.
