Pozole (Mexican soup)

I've eaten at Taqueria La Michoacana in Shreveport many times and enjoyed the tacos, but today I tried the Saturday-only pozole.
Man, it was good. It's a pork (chunks of pulled pork butt) and hominy soup in a deep red broth, served with a side plate of shredded cabbage, diced jalapenos, lime, chopped radish, and tortilla chips.
I tried it without adding anything, and it tasted okay. Then I added the cabbage, jalapenos, and radish, and squeezed a half a lime in it. That really brought it to life. It will open your sinuses.
This version looked to be made with annatto seed, like cochinita pibil, so it had that brick red color. Don't wear a good shirt to eat this.
This was one of the best new dishes I have had in a long time. Give it a shot if you have a legit Mexican place near you that serves it.

The Mexican joint near me serves a Soupa Cameron, shrimp soup. It's pretty legit. A good bowl of soup hits the soul and warms it up.

New Mexico makes a green posole that is specific to the area. It is my favorite by far.

Not better, different.
It's one hell of a hangover cure! If you don't mind offal, than it's one of the better tasting soups.

Pozole is a regular meal at our house after smoking a couple of Boston butts. Makes for a quick meal if you plan ahead with a few simple ingredients.
