I ordered a prime rib from my butcher. However when I went to pick it up he only had a ribeye roast left.
Anyway I’ve used Alton Brown’s prime rib recipe with great results.
Would the method be the same for the ribeye except for the time it takes to cook?

You just mean it wasn’t prime?

I am betting he meant boneless vs bone in

Cook them the same, it is all about internal temp

They are basically the same. Both come from the same "primal cut", though they might be prepared or cut slightly different. And "Prime" rib doesn't mean the meat was graded prime. You can have a prime rib from a select, choice, or prime graded cow.

The correct term is standing rib roast.

Sorry for confusion. Yes Standing rib roast vs boneless ribeye roast. I understand it is the same cut just with the ribs removed. I thought it would be the same prep. Just wasn’t positive.

No, prime rib has nothing to do with the USDA beef grade of prime,

I have recently switched to using boneless rib roast vs standing rib roast for prime rib, and use a roasting rack to cook it on, I find it makes a more even doneness throughout

If you go to a restaurant and order their prime rib dinner, chances are that it isn't.

The term “Prme rib” was used as early as the 1890’s in New York and probably earlier than that in England, the USDA beef grading scale did not come about till the 1920’s

Prime rib to me is bathing in herb infused au-jus with a smear of prepared horseradish on the rim of the plate.

There may not have been a USDA scale, but the best beef was described as prime in 1902 in the US.

Still don’t make prime rib from prime beef only

Just because people misuse a term, it doesn't make it correct.

Try this Adam Perry Lang version. I’ve done it a couple times-my wife thought I was nuts but it’s good. Just something different. Someone here posted his board sauces several years ago and I’ve been making them ever since.

Fun fact: Adam Perry Lang was Jeffery Epstein’s personal chef for a few years and after denying it for a long time is now cooperating with the FBI.

FYI, as expected, standing rib roast recipe for my Ribeye roast worked perfectly. Thanks for the comments. I’ll try to upload pics later.
