Looking for suggestions for lunch tomorrow with a friend who is a LA native but currently resides in Boulder. They want LA seafood and it needs to be in Southeast BR or Prairieville. Considering the new Hot Tails in Prairieville. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks!

I’ve heard good things about Hot Tails.

On the Half Shell

Mike Anderson’s in Gonzales

Can’t really think of much else.

Went to Mike Andersons in BR the last time he was in town and it was not that good.

I have heard good things about Portobellos since Scalafini revamped the menu and they have some fish dishes that look good albeit it is a small part of the menu.

Slide on down to Roberto's on River Road.

I haven’t had Portobellos since PS got there.

Jones Creek Cafe is not good, in my opinion. Seems to be more of a bar hang out for white hairs than a restaurant.

I haven’t had Galvez in a couple of years, but I think On the Half Shell is better.

Are you closer to Prairieville or Jones Creek? If you’re off Jones Creek, you can hit 12 and go to Dukes in Denham. If Prairieville, then it’s not convenient.

Roberto’s, Hot Tails or French Market Bistro if you want to get fancy.

Isn’t Hot Tails a walk up and order place? Unlike FMB and Roberto’s?

It's like that at the original. Walk up, order, get a number, then make your own drink, and find an empty table. Same model as McDonald's and Cane's.

Definitely check out Hot Tails!! Get there around 11:30 to snag some bar stools and you can sit there and order. Don’t have crawfish until 5:00, still lots of good seafood on the menu though.

As soon as they can get enough staff the entire bar area including the bar tops will have waitresses and severs.

Thanks for the info. It’s a late lunch around 1:30 pm so hopefully not too crowded.

Thank you everyone who responded.

Def Roberto’s. Timing should be perfect. Get the special.

Roberto’s is the most overrated restaurant in BR. Tried it three different times, thinking it’ll get better, and never did. Their fish in paper dish is garbage, and nothing like Lagniappe. Very average food at a high price point in a shitty out of the way location- nope.

Philay's is a good place out in Prairieville.

I honestly don’t understand how that place stays open. I have been there a couple times with my family and we did not like the food.

Im a fan of Philays. Hot Tails is good, but only if you like spicy food.

The Southern Pearl (Perkins near Bluebonnet) is the same restaurant as Gulfport's Half Shell Oyster House. I'd several of their dishes (Redfish Orleans in particular) up against damn near anything in Louisiana.

Hot Tails serves a lot that definitely are not “spicy”. Fried shrimp, fried catfish, gumbo come to mind. If you want spicy get the crawfish.

ETA: I just got back from Hot Tails. The gumbo was more spicy tonight but it was very good.
