Friend,
It has been some time. There are very few waterside restaurants in Fort Walton. Bay Cafe French Restaurant offers a great view of the bridge to Santa Rosa Island. Magnolia Grill is near the water, but there is no water view. The Shack is okay if you want overpriced fish tacos and fried shrimp. It is on the Sound.
On Fort Walton Beach, you can go Angler's, which is on the beach and offers a Gulf view. It is not particularly good, is always crowded, and you are paying more for the view than the food. That tourist cluster also is home to The Crab Trap, Al's Beach Club, Floyd's Shrimp House, and Rockin Tacos. None is worth the cost, but you do get to sit overlooking the beach.
It is well worth the drive to Destin to go to Dewey's Destin. We always go to the original bayside location, favoring it greatly over the harbor location, even though the harbor location has A/C. Dewey's is much better than any of the above offerings in Fort Walton. Unless traffic is bad, you can usually get from Fort Walton to Dewey's in 10-15 minutes.
Yours,
