Hey guys, the wife and I will be staying at Tickfaw State Park near Springfield next week and I am looking for local Restaurant suggestions........Yes, I know my choices will be limited. Is there any place on the river nearby somewhere decent?
I know you know........
Thanks

Charlie's, out on Hwy 22 heading towards the river, is about the best locally, in the Springfield area, and it's really pretty good w/ big portions. It's the local favorite.
Lagniappe is next to Charlie's but I'd go with Charlie's first.
There's a fairly new, very small place call Lil Miss Winnie's, in the middle of Springfield, that I hear is good.
Other than that you have Childer's Grocery (definitely an old time country store) for burgers, sandwiches, etc and which is the closest place to the Tickfaw State Park. Then you have Subway, Pizza Hut and The River Stop Chevron Station for eating choices in Springfield.
Carter's Supermarket has a deli which sells good fried catfish and shrimp by the pound, for pick-up. They also have fried chicken, plate lunches and other deli type foods but no eat-in.
Beyond this, you'll need to drive into Ponchatoula or Hammond.

Just looked at Charlie's reviews, looks to be a favorite of the locals, which is always a good sign.......Thanks

Val's is good but it's a bit of a ride through the country...from Tickfaw State Park, probably around 35 or 40 minutes.
Somebody mentioned Tin Lizzy's. It's much closer but has very limited Restaurant hours. Something like 5-10 on Friday and Saturdays and 12-9 on Sundays. I don't know how the food is...I haven't eaten there in years. It's pretty much a party crowd atmosphere...something to consider if you're taking kids.

This is the correct answer.

The gas station (I think Chevron) at the corner of HWY 1037 and HWY 22 used to have a little deli that had some really good roast beef poboys. Not sure if that's still there or not. But, it is worth checking out.

The link you posted for Val's is for a Val's in Holden, MA... not the one in Maurepas (which is pretty meh).
