Save yourself some trouble and don't go - I got an oyster po-boy which was cold. Macaroni was good for sure

I sent the po-boy back, and they didn't even warm it up, much less give me a new one (it was oysters, after all).

This is the only restaurant in America I've been to where you actually could not have regular (tap) water.

Seriously.

They suck.

First of all, back in the day if you would've done something like that you would've ended up buried by the Domino Sugar Refinery. J/K.... but seriously, you would've.

Secondly, Rocky's is definitely worth the trip. Go with the stuffed bell pepper or veal parmesan and definitely get the baked macaroni and a wop salad.

So sorry for not having grown up in Chalmette, but let's look at the restaurant objectively, shall we?

The place has rude staff.

They serve cold food.

You're forced to buy bottled water - that sure as hell doesn't sound very yatty to me.

No, they served you a cold sandwich. I've never eaten cold food from there unless it was a wop salad.

It is definitely not a "by the book" place. Sometime its great, sometimes it is awful. Funniest is the old waitress carrying our 2 plate lunches with the French bread tucked under her arm, right in the pit area.

"whatsa matta dahlin', ya doan like ya bread?"

If I knew when I was going to have my last meal, it would be from Rocky's. Fried veal cutlet, mac n. cheese, side of red gravy, and a wop salad. Wash it down with a Barqs rootbeer in the bottle of course.

Or maybe I would do the BBQ Shrimp at Pascales...I don't know.

Those $45 entrees from Emeril's, Commanders, etc. are good, but leave me unfulfilled.

You ought to start a thread asking people who eat out a lot in NOLA if they think this place has great bbq shrimp...

We wouldn't want to imply that the standards of Chalmette are lower than anyone else's, would we?

I guess everyone's perspective is different compared to what they experienced.

I visted not too long after they re-opened and ordered the fried shrimp for lunch that day. Well my waitress brings out my fried shrimp and apologizes for them not being hot...(they were still warm and fine to eat) so she tells me she'll bring me some fresh ones that are coming out of the fryer in a few minutes.

Well, the first order consisted on nearly 20 or so 30-40 ct shrimp and and when she brought the "fresh hot" ones it was almost 2 doz...needless to say between that and the mac and cheese I ended up with 2 additional meals to take home.

I've eaten there quite a few times since then and its always been pleasant with good food.

However, due to the sheer volume that they serve on a daily basis i'm sure sometimes things get screwed up, can't imagine too many high volume restaurants are immune to that. But the staff there always seems pretty nice and willing to get things right if you ask nicely.

taking my grandmother, who will be 83, there for her birthday. So I am guessing the Wop Salad and Mac n Cheese is the way to go.

Correct?

That is correct.

This is one of very few restaurants where i was unable to finish. The portions are unreal for one person.
