A lot depends on where you get them. They use their own seasoning which I like, has a good spice to it and a lemon flavor.

I tried it once before and liked it. I don't think I've really had crawfish that wasn't good, mostly because I wouldn't know what bad crawfish is like. I just know that 337 folk love dusting crawfish and it doesn't taste bad but it's a waste of time and spice.

Each store location has a different person in charge of boiling crawfish. They may be told to follow a specific recipe, but it's been my experience that Rouses' crawfish are not consistent and taste below average to bad. Sometimes to salty, sometimes overcooked with tails that stick to the shells, and often dead crawfish with grass/vegetation from the field. I don't think they even clean the crawfish, just dump the sack into boiler, cook, and serve. My advice, save your $40, add another $10 and buy the best boiled crawfish in your area for $49.99 for a 10 lbs. special. Others may have had a better experience.

Rouses boiled seafood is good if you get it right when they remove it from the boiler. Once they put the seafood in those plastic bags and under the light, it became overcooked and mushy.

In my experience, Rouses does not do the best job cleaning their crawfish. Lots of grass, sticks, etc. But, that is likely why they have the least expensive crawfish around.

Same happens when they load up a couple 48 qt. ice chests on the table for self service. That retains a lot of heat and overcooks them in the closed ice chest.

Last time we got some, they didn't wash them and they were muddy as hell. Would not get again if there's mud.

Not washing the crawfish is uncalled for. Almost as soon as I put them in my big washtub and start filling it with cold water, it changes color of the water and as I move them around it gets pretty nasty.

I usually fill the tub 3 times and drain it before I find them clean enough to put in the boil pot.

Must be a store to store thing, have had it a few times as a last minute meal and never had an issue with them being dirty. The complaint about them being overly salty & overcooked from being in the ice chest too long is legit. But IMO still good enough to satisfy a last minute craving.

The dirty ones were from the store on Clearview in Metairie. We had gotten them there several times before and they were OK.

picked up 10# yesterday from Youngsville. They just came out. Found grass in them, 1/3 were very small while the rest were ok size wise. There were a pound or so cracked heads so the meat was awful. It is obvious they are unwashed and the dead one are not discarded before cooking.

10# or more the price is $3.99#, even with the waste it is a decent value.

The Rouses by me does a killer shrimp boil. Comes in like a 2lb bag.

Had some from Covington location last night. Extremely impressed. I was expecting bland, but they were very spicy and peeled well

Best grocery store crawfish in Metairie…

1. Lagensteins - clean, good flavor, not overcooked
2. Canseco’s - not very clean, some mushy, good flavor.
3. Rouse’s - dirty, gritty, many overcooked, lots of straight tails, decent flavor.

When season gets going, Dorignac’s has someone boiling outside on Saturdays and they are by far the best.

Seasoning is rarely the problem. The recipe is fine as they know what they are doing. It’s laziness that causes the common issues.

My ONLY complaint about Rouses crawfish is that they are muddy on the outside.

The price and taste are the best things about them.

I’ve gotten them at the one on Vets by Causeway in Metairie and the one on 22 in Mandeville many times.

Check out this INSANE deal I saw on their FB yesterday:

I made a wash tub out of a large rubbeemade storage container. I put a bung on it so i could run a hose into it. It fills with water and drains. Dead crawfish float out. Works great and cleans them. Then i still salt purge right before i cook. I know it's 50:50 if i should or shouldn't but i think it forces them to clean out their guts.
