I ate at this place over the weekend before heading to the Penthouse gstring awards, and loved it.
Food reminded me of Sammy's, only bigger portions and cheaper price. It was neat how they cooked it all in front of me. I also liked being so close to the water. Highly recommended!

Penthouse gstring awards

12 of Penthouse's top sluts come to Nola once a year to have a dance off and the winner is awarded the golden gstring. Think a strip club with 10 star strippers that bathe, shower, take dye grinders to their bras, and so much more on stage.

Nah, they had to keep their gstrings on for legal purposes. Sometimes they accidentally slid to the side though.

We just go home from having dinner, food was very good, all the fried seafood was perfect (big fried shrimp in a basket for my daughter, nice portion of tasty fried catfish for my son, crab cake salad for my wife and I had a fried oyster poboy). We really enjoy the spot because we live around the block, so it's close, and we always get solid food. It's not fancy food, just done right. Food is hot, beer is cold, couple of big TV's, and the owners are friendly...what more could you ask from a local place.

Great food, I have known the owner for a long time. The hours have to do with labor problems. Most restaurants in the Mandeville area have low-cost labor issues (namely the "willing" labor pool is small). THey have had to close a few times to tend to family issues because there was not someone they could leave in charge.
Side note: the owner makes the best burgers on the north shore. they had non-compete clause from selling a previous restaurant which disallowed them from selling burgers for 2 years. That period should be up soon. When burgers join the menu the RP will be even better.

They should be getting their new burger grill in this week, so should be good to go soon!
For some reason I just loved the atmosphere of this place.
Are the crab cakes any good?

is it alot of fried dishes? do they have a decent grilled selection? salads? soups? sandwiches?

We ordered mostly fried food, so I don't know about the mix of Fried/Grilled. I really like the atmosphere also...very friendly and comfortable. It looks like they are getting a new piece of cooking equipment, so maybe they will expand the menu further...we are always happy with what we order.
Also, we had an appitizer, four entrees, two beers, and four drinks...all in for $50.00 with the tip. Not bad for good food to feed a family of four.

I had the grilled shrimp po boy. It was kinda like a philly cheesesteak with shrimp instead of steak. It rocked! TONS of shrimp.

i'm not a big fan of the homes in that area but i do like to visit it. shop, dine etc
i know alot of people like the older style, but i prefer alot of the newer ammenities in newer homes and subdivisions...cookie cutter or not
i could not afford to build what i would want in that area, but maybe one day

It's starting to look more and more like Key West with all the raised houses since Katrina..but we do love this part of Mandeville. I can exercise on the lakefront, hit bars and restaurants, live music at Rubys Roadhouse...it's really a great place to live.

Agreed. You ever hang out at interference? We went one night, it was pretty chill and the bar food was awesome.
Posted on 3/5/09 at 10:41 am to indytiger
Gonna try it tomorrow night. I will go with the seafood dish.

Is Lucy's doing ok there? I really like the patio area there.
Rip's is another good option on a nice day, just not quite as casual as Lucy's.
