Spinoff Thread: You Know You Don't Have to Cook Corn, Right?

CORN ON THE COB DOESN'T NEED TO BE COOKED AT ALL.
Don't overcook your corn for 20 minutes in a crawfish or shrimp boil.

There are many ways to cook corn, but I like it raw, and I make it my duty to remind everyone every summer that they too can enjoy uncooked corn. It’s not only crisp, but incredibly sweet and juicy, and tastes fantastic right off of the cob, no heat required.

It just seems wrong though.

I cook my corn but I prefer to boil or roast very sparingly. Sort of a blue rare if you will. Boiled for a 3 or 4 minutes or roast on the grill for the same or less depending on the fire. I have charred it some and used it in other dishes and have enjoyed that.

I'll eat it even if it is overcooked, but I prefer just a quick blanch just to heat it up and kill any tiny bugs that could be living on the corn.
If you eat it raw, it is sweet and delicous though.

Humans shouldn't eat corn anyway.

The sweet corn out of Florida this time of year is outstanding. Made some fresh creamed corn for Easter meal today.

People over cook their corn on the cob all the time. I boil water, drop them in, turn the heat off and let them steep for 5 minutes or so. That way you’d not lose so much sugar

Correct. At least not in its natural form.
Different story when its refined into a syrup.

If I send my kid to school with a raw husk of corn in his lunchbox, social services would be at my house directly. I'll give it a try, then point them to this thread at the hearing.

For a boil, I just add the frozen half ears at the soak.

as kids in New Iberia, we would be playing and running around as the moms and grandparents would shuck fresh corn. Nothing like getting a cob with some kernels left on it to finish it off. so fresh and tasty

I like to steam some corn on the cob for a little bit.
