Steaming vs. boiling seafood

Personally I had never heard of steaming seafood until I moved here to Virginia. What is the point of steaming unless it is for oysters or clams? You cant get any flavor in the meat by steaming and then on top of that, they put Ole Bay on the outside of steamed shrimp and crabs with bland meat on the inside. I will take boiled seafood anyday over steamed seafood.

Steaming doesn't dilute the natural flavors of the protein. It's a good method. I like both.

I have a friend that steams the crawfish first then soaks it in a different pot to get it seasoned. I have to say that the meat taste better and it comes out the tail a lot easier as well. I was extremely skeptical at first, but I became a fan.

Steaming crawfish > boiling crawfish , hands down the best way to cook crawfish and yes its perfectly seasoned similar to boiling but the tailmeat is so much better by steaming it.

Steaming is a gentler process. Some think it let's the juices stay in the food rather than letting it escape into the water.

We basically steam our crawfish. No one has ever complained.

Steamed crabs are delicious.....I usually cook crabs with little/no seasoning. They're delicious even without the cliche flavors of seafood boil.
