So I know the Garlic Cheese roll has been long discontinued, but does anyone have a good sub for it? I've been using Velvetta with garlic powder, but its just not the same.

For spinach madeleine? I plan to use the mexican velveeta this year.

I've used the Mexican Velveeta as well and it's worked fine. I add some garlic. You might try fresh garlic rather than granulated or powder. You can also hydrate the toasted minced garlic. It's pretty flavorful.

Deitz and Watson makes a pretty good substitute for it. Melts good and has good flavor.

Try this

Were you also adding in sharp cheddar/cream cheese to that mix?

I’ve been using American cheese from the deli over velveeta.

As others have said, Spinach Madeleine and cheese grits are the two recipes that come to mind. Just add garlic powder to whatever cheese you choose.

Yes, and here's the story on the dish.

LINK

I met the creator years ago when I stayed in the one of her B&B cottages on her property. Interesting woman.

She's apparently never been satisfied with any substitution since the jalapeno log was discontinued. I may go with American cheese like Kraft Deluxe next time I make it. I'm not making it this year. We're having Kartchner's creamed spinach instead. It's similar.

I saw that recipe. Think I’ll give it a shot. Seem easy enough.

Yes I have used them and they are very good. I'm making this to snack on while I make my turkey

Just ran out of time to deal with it. One of us usually makes it ahead of time and freezes it which works well. I got started on all of my assignments too late. We get it during the year to have as a side, so we decided to load up and scoop it into a casserole dish. Not exactly the same, but close enough and very good. I wish they made them in larger quantities. I suppose you could probably pre-order in some other type of vessel, but it will work out just fine.

I’m thinking about making Spinach Madeleine for the first time this Christmas. I see that this is a favorite of yours, Tigerpaw. Any updates to your modified recipe since your last notes on this?

Zuppardo's makes this in house. Better than the original.

Will go this route with fresh garlic.
