J,
quality escolar is like butter, melts in your mouth. ... guess that's why each person has their own palate and food favorites
I could eat my weight in Uni

Been there for the AYCE lunch and it was average.

These fish are commonly known as snake mackerels, and they include species such as oilfish and escolar fish. When a person consumes these fish, the wax esters may accumulate in the rectum, causing the leakage of orange, oily stool.

Italy and Japan do not allow the sale of escolar fish in their country. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advise against the importation and marketing of oilfish and escolar fish.
It clearly doesn't happen to everyone or else nobody would sell it, but I don't want to take my chances with leaky orange oil

I'm assuming it's the same Sushi Masa as what's in Lafayette,
The one in Lafayette is way nicer than the one in BR.. It’s okay sushi. I wouldn’t go there for quality sushi. But the AYCE everything else is a nice touch. Plus you get one free drink with it. When I go to masa I always go stoned, to get my moneys worth, and makes the sushi taste better.
If you’re looking for quality, go to sushi Yama right around the corner

I'm lightweight when it comes to Sushi. We went to this conveyer belt sushi place in San Antonio and I tried Uni and almost lost it. Was able to keep it down. But I can't eat that again.
But the conveyor belt concept was cool as hell.

Do they have apps in the buffet as well?
Not a buffet.
If you like nagiri, and have ever had the misfortune of getting old fish at some of the other places... There are deals to be had.
Fish turnover is outstanding obviously.
I stick to tuna, white tuna, and salmon. Everything is always fresh. That, a seaweed salad, cucumber salad a spicy tuna salad, and one fried roll are uaually my go to.
Mainly, I just want a shite ton of fresh fish, and a rice bowl.

everyone is different when it comes to Uni, definitely an acquired taste. Probably 1 in 5 of my friends will eat it. The others say .. " Nope, Nope, Nope, I ain't touching that stuff..." Uni is very expensive and once opened, it only has a 1-2 day window before it goes bad. Most restaurants don't sell it because very few will order it.

For $36, you can just go to a regular sushi place and eat
No way I’m getting as much for $36 at a “regular” place that I get there.
The one in Houston also comes with a glass of wine, beer or Saki.

I thought it was ok.
I prefer raw sushi and was surprised that only about half of their sushi was whole and raw. Maybe it was even less than that.
I think ordering raw (and not that mashed up questionable meat) only might be the only way to truly get your $33 worth?
I have never seen so many people eating crab salad mountains in my life.

That’s because every person like you, and probably most of us in this thread who order their weight in sashimi get balanced out by the teen girls and baws with their girlfriends ordering the Snow White roll (snow crab and tempura shrimp).
I miss Sushi Masa from my time in school. It’s not the best sushi by far, and I’ve had better AYCE, but it’s always been solid and I never left sad. I feel like it used to be $25ish for dinner and in the teens for lunch, but guess inflation hit.
Always found sitting at the sushi bar was faster than a table.

It's where the guys and I go when we all wanna meet up and put ourselves into a food coma every few weeks. If we ordered the amount of "specialty rolls" we do there anywhere else it'd be an easy $100+ bill for each of us.
We each order a handful orders of Pepper Tuna, FJ roll, Snow White, a Masa Roll, an I10, an I12, and LSU roll to start then slowly make our way to another roll or two if we're not slumped over by that point (FYI the LSU rolls come out much later than everything else so be mindful ordering more when there's another half pound of sushi on the way). The included alcoholic drinks are okay and you also get fried cheesecake included in the AYCE to top it off.

I used to frick up sushi masa, but after seeing a few of their food safety audits I had to step away.

I've gotten the AYCE twice and won't get it again. Junk rolls with trash fish, and price is not worth it in the slightest.
Masa actually has some good hibachi plates and specialty (non-AYCE) rolls, but Yama's worst roll blows Masa's best out the water

Yama is very good, but their prices are absurd. They have salads for $30+. Even Umami, which Yama couldn’t sniff, isn’t that high.
Masa is a no thanks for me. I don’t eat the quantity to need AYCE, and the place is just weird service and customer wise.

It is. I mistyped. Masa has the bad food safety audits.
Yama is the best sushi in town imo, but their prices are crazy high.
