Sushi Yama: Probably the best restaurant in Baton Rouge

I know it is sushi, but from A-Z, this place is top notch. Hard to find a better dining experience regardless of the type food served. If I had to choose between Brandt's and Sushi Yama, I would pick SY. Had lunch there yesterday and it was sublime.

have to disagree. definitely not the best restaurant in baton rouge and it's in the top 3 in baton rouge as far as sushi joints go.
i still give the nod to Waka House as #1. best spicy tuna roll i have ever had and the rolls and sashimi are always fresh.
when i went to yama it was really good, but nothing impressive. what i did notice was my check was much larger than at other places. and i didn't feel the price justified the product

IMO Waka House is the worst place in BR for sushi. I also had the spicy tuna roll there is it was definitely not fresh.

i live down the road from waka house and we eat there usually once a week. freshness has never been an issue

I don't care how good it is, I just don't think any sushi restaurant has broad enough appeal to be the best restaurant in any American city. I like Sushi but I can guarantee you half the people I know would say "no thanks" if I said "lets go get some sushi."

I understand your point, but from a pure dining experience, my lunch yesterday at Sushi Yama was better than dinner a few weeks ago at Brandt's.

the couple of times i have eaten there the service has always been real good. but it's a sushi restaurant. it does not compare to service i have received at louisiana lagniappe, juban's mansur's, or hell, even melting pot.
what i do notice is the sushi taste identical and looks identical to waka house and ichiban, but everything is about $3 more. the product doesn't justify the hike in price.
however in a city flooded with sushi places, it is definitely top 3 for taste and consistency

LL is just a seafood restaurant. Service at freshness at Sushi Yama is up there with any restaurant in Baton Rouge. Why can't a sushi restaurant be the best ?

that's like saying KPaul's is just a cajun restaurant and Commander's Palace is just a French-Creole restaurant. the service at yama is good. for a sushi restaurant. they bring my food promptly and make sure they refill my glass. it doesn't compare to other upscale dining places

i have to strongly disagree. La is just pretty behind the times/close minded in terms of some cuisines compared to the elite major cities.
for example, Sushi Yasuda and Masa are widely regarded as 2 of THE best restaurants in the best food city in America (NYC), and they are japanese places focusing heavily on sushi. Same story in Los Angeles.

those are both high end sushi restaurants. they better be good and have great service cuz the prices there makes tsunami look like drunken fish

no idea. it will an interesting vote count.
i just wish i wasn't so swamped at work yesterday and could have rallied people i know IRL to cast votes...it would have been a landslide victory. Didn't leave work until about midnight CST. Not sure if my late, weak effort was enough. Either way, it amused me.
I think some people thought i was serious....wait, i KNOW some people thought i was dead serious. Pretty funny thread on the OT.
