Tchoup's MidCity Smokehouse in Lafayette is closing it's doors

Tchoup's MidCity Smokehouse will shut down as of December 29 after nearly five years in business. Located in an iconic converted home on South College Road, the barbecue joint has been a staple of mid-city Lafayette since opening in the summer of 2020. Owner Ryan Pecot expressed gratitude to his customers but added the restaurant is no longer "financially viable."
I ate there 3-4 times and the food was okay, nothing spectacular. Blanchard's is probably the best BBQ place in LAF; however, I have worries about them staying open since their rent has to be high AF in that shopping center.

I think I ate there 3 times, I thought the food that they had other than BBQ was decent. The BBQ wasn’t great.
Blanchard’s is definitely the best BBQ in Lafayette, I think they do well enough between there and Flats to keep afloat.

What an odd name for a barbecue joint in Lafayette.

I saw their post about this last night. It sucks. I liked going there for brunch.
The BBQ was ok. They reinvented their menu and the food was good, but it was way outside of the original concept and didnt fit the building they are in.
I hope something can make a go of it at that location, because its got a GREAT patio. Lafayette needs more patio spaces in restaurants.

Blanchards prices are astronomical and the line is still out the door. They will be fine.

The fact that yall are talking about how a BBQ didn't have good BBQ is a sign the business probably should've rebranded. BRQ can learn a lesson in this.

Unsurprising.
They spent all their money on redoing the building and making the bar look bad arse (which it does).
They have impressive BBQ equipment but didn't hire anyone that actually knows how to BBQ so their BBQ has been substandard since the beginning.
Not only that, but their portions were very small for the prices.
Their apps and some of their other food was good as well as their cocktails, but it was never a BBQ place and never should've originally been branded as one.
I enjoyed going there on nice days to sit on the patio and have an app or a drink, but after my first few visits, I never ate lunch or dinner there.

Disappointed to hear this. We've eaten there a dozen times or more, and always liked it. The re-done and diversified menu, we thought, was a good move, because you don't always want BBQ. Steak and fish entrees were nice options.
And yes, the back deck is nice on a good weather day.

The bar, and outside space were both nice, but it just seemed like a random location. Maybe it isn’t for some people, but I rarely if ever find myself on that section of S College.

I used to like blanchards. The brisket is decent. the sides are pretty bad though. and it pisses me off that they give you this huge pile of whatever the side is. I dont need a foot tall pile of fries mfer. just sell me a normal order of fries for 2-3$ instead. id love to know how much of the sides just get tossed because a single person cant eat that much.

Simply can't compete with Blanchard's. Cool place though.

Not really surprised by this, it's a bummer to see another local spot shutting down but the few times we tried it the BBQ was pretty bad and the portions felt small. We never got a chance to try it after they revamped the menu but it always seemed like they had an identity crisis. Probably should've done a full name change and kept the steaks/nice stuff and just dropped all their BBQ dishes all together.
For as meh as Tchoups has been they have done really well with the Adopted Dog Brewery though, we are they several times a year.

Blanchards should move into Tchoups. Blanchards kills it despite a shite location/atmosphere. Tchoups has a great place that they dumped a lot of money into probably with everything you need to bbq well...they just didn't know how to use it.

I don't know about this. I think Blanchard's should move somewhere else for sure as their current location sucks, but Tchoup's location on South College is not ideal either. Definitely a better atmosphere and building, but I literally never think of the place because of it's location. Having Blanchard's downtown would be cool.

Would Blanchard’s work in the former Wurst Biergarten/current Sarrica’s spot? Thinking in the event that Sarrica’s closes that location after opening the spot on Ambassador.

This is the exact spot I was thinking of, but I don’t know that it would work there. Not sure how big of an area they have for food prep, cooking, etc… But, that location otherwise would be cool for a BBQ spot.
