Drive-thru daiquiri stands sprang up across south Louisiana in the early 1980s, and they were controversial from the beginning.
The Daiquiri Factory in Lafayette was perhaps the first. It was the brainchild of David Ervin, a forestry school dropout in his mid-20s who opened his drink stand on Johnson Street in late 1981, according to stories in The Times-Picayune archives. It was an overnight success - for Ervin, anyway.

New Orleans Original Daiquiris is the GOAT of Daiquiri places. They have always been the best.

I hate ignorant rednecks too much to start a drive-thru daiquiri shop. Can you imagine dealing with them on a daily basis? So trashy. I rather start a place that serves small chicken tenders and ore-ida fries. Don't get me wrong, those customers are dumb as frick, but they ain't ignorant rednecks.

Relative opened the first one in Janesville. Think it was called Bills Beer Barn.

Looks like the (original?) Fat Tuesday Daiquiri shop on Vets near Massachusetts has assumed room temperature. To make a "Rum Runner", they mixed in some kind of purple liquid (blackberry liqueur?) that was somehow 100% sweet and 105% alcohol.
Best part was the SO hated it ("too sweet"), so it was all mine for the ride back to Baton Rouge

My favorite was 90% White Russian,10% Strawberry, with 2 extra shots, and chocolate syrup.

I always liked Daiquiris Supreme went I was in Lafayette. Stopped at New Orleans Original Daiquiris once, was probably worst I've had.
