We canceled. Too inconsistent. Found packages not sealed when we thawed them out.

Overpriced. Just do the price per LB vs Costco or Sam’s

same. And in the summer they would arrive mostly thawed. The delivery was convenient but I ended up just doing grassfed at Costco also.

It wasn’t good. When I priced it out I could get better quality meat for less at Sam’s/Costco/Local Grocery.

The only thing that was decent was their grass fed steaks. Other than that, crap. A lot of what we got tasted freezer burned

I order beef almost exclusively from ranchers that do direct to consumers…try these guys:

44 Farms

Morehouse Ranch

Carter Country Meats

RC Ranch

Do you find them as better quality or a better price than what butcher box offers? Or a combination of both

I haven't used Butcher Box but I did the Iverstine's meat box for a few months during the Covid times.

I am a huge fan of what Iverstine does, but when you're paying $100+ for a box that has sasuage, chicken legs, and ground meat in it...it doesn't feel like you get your money's worth.

Especially when you take those same items, price them out at a grocery store and find you can get double the meat for half the price.

They obviously have a thriving business and people like their product, and you won't know if it's really worth it until you purchase a box yourself.

I also recommend going on youtube and watching some unboxing and review videos.

Admittedly I've never used Butcher Box, or any other "curated" by someone else option.

I like being able to specifically order the cuts of the animal I want...I don't want a box full of chicken apple sausages, stew meat and sirloins.

better quality

Again I've never used Butcher Box, but according to their website they source most of their beef from Australia.

Why?

I can drive down the road to Cameron TX and actually visit 44 Farms. I know where that animal came from.

better price

I doubt it...44 Farms, RC Ranch, Carter Ranch aren't cheap...I'm ok with that...I'll pay a little extra better tasting, better quality products.

I guess I'll buck the trend and say we like the service.

We have been subscribed for a year and find it a good value for us. We eat only grass fed grass finished beef now and it can be hard to find locally. Even local farmers that grass feed their cattle usually grain finish so you have to be sure they are comparing to the same product. Of course grain fed or finished beef will be cheaper, it is up to you to decide if the different nutrient profile is worth it to you.

To get the best value I would suggest to get the small custom box and only get high value products such as beef as having chicken wings etc. will lower the overall value. They offer "sales" on almost everything throughout the month that you can add on to your regular order and this can substantially increase the value.

They also offer "year for $$" offers occasionally. For example 2 lbs of ground beef a month added to your order for a year was $55, so $2.29 lb. Of course you have to stay subscribed but with our lifetime free offers and the add on year offers we now get 4lbs of ground beef, 3lbs of chicken breasts, and bacon with every order.

We've tried the various add ons like sausage, carnitas etc and find the quality very good.Their pork is Heritage Breed and we love the pork chops.

We did have problems at first with crappy Fedex delivery where them order would sit on their truck for days and arrive thawed. They offered no hassle replacement and eventually switched us to UPS and all orders arrived frozen rock solid.

We had a few items like above where the packaging seems to get too cold and the plastic cracks but customer service will replace or credit no problem. They will also take care of anything you don't find up to standards. Customer service has been great for us. Some of the products now seem to be switching to a different packaging so maybe that is a thing of the past.

So basically it would depend on what you are looking for, if you are looking for cheap then probably not but if looking for quality that can be hard to find locally then yes. As stated above it would probably be best to try it yourself, you can always cancel.

I agree with all of this. I had add ons and sales added value. I also admit I quit because fed ex was the problem. It was when stuff was just sitting in their warehouse and being delivered ridiculously late. I also lost my job due to covid around that time so it was an easy bill to remove. I agree with grass fed grass finished bwing hard to find.

Thanks for all the replies! I think because where I live the delivery won’t be a problem so I’m going to try one box and see how it goes.

Also, I am planning on grilling most of the beef. Does it grill pretty well?

Yes it grills well but you may have to adjust your technique and seasonings. It won't be as marbled as most American steaks in the store so don't overcook it.

Grass fed grass finished can taste "funny" to people that have never ate it and are accustomed to commercial grain fed and finished beef. The closest comparison would be to how venison can taste "gamey" to new eaters.

If you do have delivery problems just contact CS, if you continue to have problems you can be switched to UPS.

I agree with you. I do tend to pause delivery during the summer because of the higher chance of spoiled shipments (which BB always takes care of with a credit).
