Howdy All,

Had lunch at MiLa the other day, and they were forced to substitute monkfish for something called "Triple Tail"...

Is this a cutting edge name for tilapia?!

Not a bad fish...just not super-smooth like most of MiLa's stuff.

Gulf fish. Don't catch them often. Not associated with tilapia. Flackey white filet, to me similar to Sea Bass just not as thick.

Very good eatiing fish which have been abundant in Louisiana waters this year. Not remotely close to tilapia.

definitely my favorite also....
it definitely is a bitch to catch, could be one of the best eating fish in inshore/offshore waters... its much better than tilapia, which has no flavor at all, tilapia just takes the flavor of whatever its cooked it or with.

I don't think that would happen. Triple Tail are also known as Black Fish. They are delicious.

Cant find anything specific

Picture reminds me of the Sea Bass I caught in the Pacific Ocean of the coast of washington State back in 83. Those sea bass or rock fish were some of the best fish I ever ate.
The fresh salmon was also spectactular. One day there was a silver salmon that was hooked badly and would not survive if thrown back so the captian of the boat took it home and kempered smoked it. It was by far the best piece of fish I have ever eating. Fresh Dungeness crabs cooked in Zaterians on that same boat was also very very good.

Yeah they do, I have a good friend that crabs out in Lake Borgne(or used to). I remember him saying this past winter that he wasn't catching many crabs, but the triple tail were out in force around the traps and he was going out the next morning to catch some more.

Triple Tail is a delicacy, for sure. To think that many used to think that it was a "trash" fish and throw 'em back! I've had some success catching them underneath the ship channel buoys in Big Lake. You could probably eat them sashimi style and it would be better than most fish cooked.

People still throw Sheepshead back but its also a very good fish to eat. Many claim its hard to clean but I have never had any issues with it. Known in restautaurants as Bay Snapper.

Best eating fish in the sea IMO
Tripletail

tough to catch but such a reward... I tell people imagine it being a ~20lb sac-a-lait...

It is such a great tasting fish that I tell everyone it's like a dessert... A pecan pie if u will (I love pecan pie)

I've gotten it at a restaurant before and it was grilled and not worth a shite... (One of the higher class places in BR)

I cut it into thin strips and fry it... It will be the best fish you have ever eaten

I am always on the lookout for them when we are fishing in the gulf bc they are THAT good

just hope the oil doesn't hurt them bc they are a surface species
