Turning a dirty rice into a jambalaya?

Watched the recent episode of Binging with Babish and he did Cajun food. I was ready to cringe until I saw Issac Toups was on the show with him. I like Issac's personality and his restaurants, and the food they made looked pretty great: chicken and sausage gumbo, rillons, dirty rice, and jambalaya.

So in the video, they make this really great looking dirty rice, and then Issac turns it into jambalaya by simply adding cooked sausage and chicken to it. Is this really a version of jambalaya? Spice wise it would be on point, but it would also have ground meat in it. So that's different.
Anyway, IWEI for sure

I think Isaac is a good dude but I watched a couple things he cooked and lets just say that's not how Most coonasses I know do it. Jambalaya is about building layers and adding to it. That sausage and chicken needs to be browned down to add flavor to it.

Would not be jambalaya in my book, but I would eat the hell out of it
For me dirty rice needs liver and adds cooked rice to the meat and veggie mixture
Jambalaya rice cooked in the gravy made from cooking the meats and veggies
Call it what you want

Isaac Toups starts his jambalaya with a roux.

He acknowledged multiple times in the video that the dirty rice/jambalaya would not be traditional

i was taught that dirty rice was when you cooked rice and added it to most anything. jambalaya was when you cooked the rice in almost anything.

Just watched that video. I'm not gonna debate any of his words or techniques but all of that stuff looked delicious.

sorry to high jack but my second to favorite meal after thanksgiving is a turkey gumbo topped with dirty rice, the first smoked turkey with mayo and swiss on white bread
