Unless you live under a rock you have had both over the years.,....i think most people here have had both.. that being said....if you could have one over the other... which one would it be? As much as I love a good watermelon (seedless being better of course) I feel like cantaloupe wins out for me. What says you?

I love a nice ripe piece of Cantaloupe. I feel like my odds of getting a good piece of watermelon are better than cantaloupe but if I had two ripe pieces of each, I’d rather cantaloupe.

My experience tells me cantaloupes tend to be much sweeter more consistently.

I recently had a seedless melon that had the flavor of some of those rice cakes that resemble Styrofoam packing material in shipped goods. It was cold and that is about the best I can say about it.

Cantaloupes are generally sweeter, but I don't particularly care for either. Had way, way too many growing up.

I like both, but I don't seem to get sweet cantaloupe as often as a good watermelon during the season. I love a watermelon caprese and watermelon gazpacho.

When I was a kid my mom would buy small cantaloupes, cut them in half, remove the seeds and fill the cavity with chocolate ice cream. Damn, that shite was good.

I tried to eat one like that a few years ago and it like to killed me being far too sweet and way too much food. Amazing what young people can eat, and the quantity they can consume.

Watermelon but barely. If fresh from the garden I’d barely put watermelon over cantaloupe. From store it seems cantaloupe do a little better

A bad watermelon is still much better than a bad canteloupe. I enjoy both when they're ripe and fresh, but I've never eaten canteloupe until I was physically ill- I can't say that about watermelon.

I prefer a fully ripe Cantaloupe. Watermelons tend to be more consistent however.

a perfect cantaloupe beats watermelon, but watermelon usually wins

My dad would do that, but with vanilla, to get me to eat cantaloupe. It worked then, but he pretty much covered us up in watermelons and cantaloupes and I have no desire for them now.

It can hard to get a good one in a grocery store. Commercial growers pick them so early for shipping. A small farmer selling them is your best bet for a vine ripe melon, if you can find one.

The newer "Kiss" varieties, like Sugar Kiss and Honey Kiss, are pretty good according to my wife. I've tasted a bite and they are quite sweet with a good texture.

seedless

Is shite, give me a big sweet one with the seeds. I find seedless have a different texture and I've never had one as sweet as the seeded melons.

... if you are ever going to Gulf Shores , Al or Dauphin Island , Al , do yourself a favor and stop along the way at Grand Bay, Al, off I-10.

Grand Bay has some of the best watermelons on the planet. They have always had these sweet gems, way back in the 60s.
My dad worked at the shipyard in Pascagoula Miss and on the way home he would stop and pick up a Grand Bay melon.
Great memory ...

cantaloupe with some black pepper is DeVine, same side watermelon with some salt is even as great.

But I will go orange fruit on this round

if you have not had black pepper on cantaloupe you are missing out for sure

I had cold cantaloupe soup with a bank exec in the corporate dining room once. It was great.
That said, good watermelons are much easier to come by than good cantaloupe around here.
