Meh, I grew up Mahatma but whenever I go to a Chinese restaurant, it always seems that their steamed (white) rice is just a little better in terms of texture and taste. Hoping I could get the scoop on this and where to buy it.

Also, I always use the "White Rice" setting on my rice cooker. It does a fantastic job. It also has a "Steam" setting. Should I try that? TIA.

No idea on brand, but it is short-grain rice, which is stickier and may taste a little sweeter than long or medium grain.

MEH, What ever the hell that means, They probably use Calrose. It comes in a large yellow bag. I have a bag in my closet. There are some things that go better with sticky rice.

I'd be surprised if they use American grown rice.

Stroll down the rice aisle at an oriental market. They have numerous brands to choose from in 50 lb bags. if you're female, you could even ask what they recommend.

The oriental market I frequent has a pallet of rice in 50lb sacks with some Asian jibberish written on it. Ive seen 2 Asian people who own restaurants buying it..... im sure its a technique thing and not a certain brand.

It's all in the technique. You have to steam that shite.

I use Calrose rice - specifically the Botan Brand. 2 cups water to 1.5 cups of rice, I add 2 TBL butter, 2 tsp salt, bring to a boil, cover and simmer 20 min, makes perfect sticky (not gummy) al dente rice. It's fool proof, and I never have to use a rice cooker. I get mine at Kroger here in Shreveport, but before they carried it, I got it from Amazon.
