What is a strong horseradish brand

Just bought a jar of inglehoff that says buy before may 2023. Says it is extra hot. Boiled some shrimp and just opened jar. Not only is it not extra hot is isn’t even baby hot. Totally no heat.
Same has occurred with Zagatains abs others. But I can taste Tabasco and Wasbi fine. But wasabi isn’t horseradish.
What rand do y’all find to be good and strong at least when you open it for first time.

I buy fresh root and process it with some white vinegar in the FP. NonE of the processed stuff I can find is worth a shite.

Where do yo I find fresh root. I’ve bought roots and they are lame. Probably old roots. Who has fresh?

I can get fresh at Brookshire’s, sometime. If it is firm, fine. Soft, leave it.

horseradish is a mustard relative
once crushed and exposed to air it degrades immediately
zatarains is usually decent for jarred but fresh is best.

I'm a fan of Beaver Extra Hot but it wasn't available last time I bought some so I settled for Zats.

But the fresh root is always gonna be less hot than the store bought stuff, so you’re not into the hot stuff.

Because the store bought shite has made you think horseradish is fire. It’s not. The crap you buy at the store is concentrated.

Fresh Pickens on Coursey usually has fresh roots. Be careful, the last one I grated almost took the top of my bald head off. Some of the jarred brands are good, look for the one that are in the refrigerated case.

Pretty sure I’ve had this one and it’s spicy

Have any of you used horseradish powder?

I seem to grab whatever “looks good” when I need horseradish. Usually end up getting new due to age before I finish one. Publix and fresh market are just fine with the brands they carry.

I was coming to post this too. St Elmo’s steakhouse is famous for their cocktail sauce. When I dined there, I had to try it and the payoff was amazing. I bought a bottle online and it seemed slightly less pungent, but still more potent than any other store brand.

Silver Springs is the winner IMO. Can find in the cooler section at Rouses. Have tried them all, and this is the easiest to consistently find that will make you slap the table!

That's what I buy for Bloody Marys. Good stuff. As a rule of thumb, if you want fresh ground horseradish, it is in the refrigerated section at the store.
