I stopped at the original one in Tuscaloosa yesterday. Didn’t really know what to expect. What I got was overpriced sinewy ribs served by a rude black woman perturbed that I was inquiring about their menu, $3 each bland beans and potato salad and a piece of white bread. $30 later I got back on the interstate feeling violated. The place was packed too. WTF are those Gumps thinking? frick that place

I've not had the food there, but I order the bbq sauce periodically. It's quite good.

Seems about right. I've been to the one in Birmingham a few times. For what it is, I'd rather go to Jim N Nicks. I remember ordering a rib sandwich, and they gave me a few ribs still on the bone and a stack of bread. If I wanted to make my own sandwich I would have stayed at home.

I could eat a whole loaf of bread with their bbq sauce. When I was a kid I used to soak the white bread they give with that sauce.

Should’ve gone to Archibald’s. But Dreamland has good sauce and mediocre to bad ribs.

The sauce is the key there. The ribs are simply grilled, not barbecued. And they pour WAAY too much salt on the meat during the cook, It helps if you order 'short ends,' where there's more meat in the serving. Oddly, their fries are usually hot and good, and the banana pudding is REALLY good. The Dreamland in Mobile also has chicken which has tended to be dry at times. Its worth visiting the original once to check it off your list, but overall, its a mediocre product with some massaged history behind it.

Dreamland is a rookie move. Checkout Archibald's next time.

I went to the original Tuscaloosa location about 15 years ago and had the same experience. Ribs were dry as hell.

That's where we send out of towners so the secret doesn't get out on Archibald's.

Seriously though, Dreamland used to be the best. When the owner died in the early 90's, his daughter took over. It's gone down hill since then. Big Daddy slow cooked the ribs, and wasn't really about customer service. You got your ribs when he said they were ready to eat. 2-3 hours waits wasn't unheard of. And back then, it was only ribs and white bread. Now, the cook them faster so they're not as good. They go for quantity over quality.

That was put on the menu at the original as a joke because people would come in asking for a sandwich when the menu clearly stated ribs and white bread. I guess it's funny they've carried on the tradition at the other locations.

Well it was full of locals yesterday. A few college aged kids, but mainly middle aged white collar looking white dudes who appeared to be on their lunch break. Everybody there knew the routine except me.

I ate at the one in downtown Montgomery about a year back. It was mediocre at best.

Heavy on the cider vinegar, enough to make your lips pucker at the first bite. It USED to be kept and poured out of an old plastic coffee pot which kept it at temp. Most people love the sauce after that first bite and the 'tang' they get from it.

Its pretty mediocre. Any location not the original are even worse. Ribs are tough and usually cooked way too fast. sauce is good.

Other locations have some pretty good wings.

It is a place that is popular for the novelty and original fame of it. At one point it was good, just once it franchised it went to shite over the years.

Yep. Now they are cooked in like an hour to hour and a half if I remember correctly from a buddy that used to work at the bham one. Their food is just mostly trash now. Only thing I ever get there if I have to eat at any of them, is the wings.

I liked it when it was here but people couldn’t break away from crappy TJ Ribs so it went under.

Even Archibalds grills their ribs and they are not as tender as they should be. Sauce is much better but similar to Dreamlands. Only reason to go to Dreamland is for the banana pudding.
