Where the hell did Deangelos go?

I was off here for several months so apologies if this has been discussed but what the hell happened?

I was wondering the same thing myself.

Supposedly the owner's interest in the restaurant business began to wane as he got more involved with entrepreneurship programs. I'm sure there's more to it than just that, but that's what I was told by someone that knows Louis pretty well.

Was a big fan of the one next to the Winn Dixie on Burbank and Lee. There is still one in BR, on Bluebonnet I believe.
Edit: On Bluebonnet next to the Buffalo Wild Wings across from Perkins Rowe

Unless the one on bluebonnet reopened it’s closed as well. Last time I went to that location there was a sign on the door saying it was relocating.

That one has been closed for months. Sign on the door said they were re-opening on Siegen. Don't know how that's going (or where).

Oh dang my bad for the false info, that is kind of sad to know though, was a yuge fan of the calzones and sensation salad. Hopefully they do reopen on Siegen. RIP you will be missed

If I recall correctly, his first location was in the Hammond Aire Shopping Center. I want to say 1991? He’s a very nice guy. The best looking location was either Jefferson Hwy or the one at Coursey and Hickory Ridge. I loved their calzones.
I felt at one point back in the day with their out of state expansion (Colorado and Indiana) that they were going to be the next big chain at a national level.

No one will pay $20 for a pizza anymore.
I remember when it was in Hammond Aire in the small space, it was maybe 5 tables in the place before they moved to the corner spot in Hammond Aire.
Rotolo's kind of took over the Deangelo's market over time.
Now you have a Lit Pizza on every corner.

I can tell you absolutely for certain ALL DeAngelos locations are permanently closed and will not be re-opening or re-locating regardless of any rumors or signs on doors to the contrary. It was a possibility at one time a location on Siegen would open, but that will no longer be happening. Louis lost his interest in his restaurants long ago, and the years of neglect took its toll.
Nandos Restaurant was also co-owned by Louis and once relocated, but is also permanently closed. Louis also owned a corporate foodservice management company and Tapas Restaurant downtown, but they are also closed. The entrepreneurial office sharing space Louis opened with some partners is also permanently closed.
If you want to have basically the same food as the old style DeAngelos, Louis' cousin runs Bistro Italia on Coursey. He worked and trained at DeAngolos for years, so the food and menu should be very similar.
Bistro Italia
I am in no way affiliated with or endorse Bistro Italia, for any who may question, just offering this info for anyone interested.

Bistro Italia has the best pizza in town.
Deangelos started to suck years ago. In my youth I waited tables at the original Bluebonnet location, which is now Casa Maria. Everything used to be about quality and fresh ingredients. Louis’ mom made the cheesecakes herself. They only did pizza, calzones, and salads, focused on those things only, and made them great. They trained their staff very well. You could have an awesome casual meal for $20. It wasn’t unusual for an hour wait on a Friday/Saturday night.
Then they opened a third location, and a fourth, and a fifth. Then they started franchising. Then they started adding more and more items to the menu until it ballooned to several pages with unnecessary items. I wanna say they hired outside consultants instead of looking to the people that had helped them be successful for years. Quality ingredients were replaced with lesser items. Prices started getting ridiculous. Food became hit or miss. I think there was a lot of family drama...Louis cut his dad out at some point.
They tried to grow to big too fast, sacrificed what made them great, and they slowly died.

Original location was Hammond Aire shopping center across from where Burlington is now

Yes, that’s true.
I guess I should’ve been more clear...I worked at the first location they had on Bluebonnet, before they moved it next to Buffalo Wild Wings. The restaurant that is now a Casa Maria used to be a Deangelos, and was the second restaurant Louis opened.

Loved Deangelos back in the day. Used to buy my salesmen lunch there when I worked with them in BR. Always ordered the Foccocia Bread with Mushrooms and Pesto Sauce. Ate there years later when it was a shell of itself. Shame.

Yes franchising was a major factor in the start of the death spiral of what used to be a fantastic brand.
It pains me when a taste of success in the food biz causes over reaching money grabbing.
This inevitably leads to major cost cutting and foregoing the quality of service and ingredients which made you popular in the first place.

PA is correct, the original DeAngelos was in Hammond Aire. It was started as Parma's Pizza, which my contractor cousin, his crew(including I), built when I was in school at LSU. Paul Parma was some form of kin to Louis I believe, and had him come down from Jersey to see if he wanted to buy it.
I and my father were loyal regulars, and worried for a few years if he would make it. Louis started as a one man show(much like Jared at Yamanuha now), answered the phones, made the pizzas,etc..eventually had a girl to work phones and counter, then another,etc..He'd be so tired, and would show up at Spanky's after close for a daiquiri.
The Dinardo era and catering for an LSU event,etc..helped launch him further as word of his quality spread, eventually he had his whole family move down here. Had a great run before the menu and focus sprawled into fast expansion.

Last I knew, Louis ran the cafeteria in the CB&I building (now APTIM). I haven’t worked there in a few years so I don’t know if that’s still the case. He and his wife were both super nice and it was convenient having them in house. He offered several entrees daily, a sandwich line, a grill line, a salad bar and he also had a pizza oven so you could order pizzas and calzones. They also did breakfast.
