Making my first trip to Gruene Hall next month and looking for places to eat while there. Me and the SO are staying at a B&B near the hall, so no breakfast recs needed. We'd like to have one "nice" meal before one of the shows and casual places otherwise. Any help is appreciated. You guys and gals never let me down. TIA

If you are staying at the Gruene Apple...DO NOT MISS THE BREAKFAST!!! DAMN GOOD!!

There is a Cooper's BBQ not far away, in New Braunfels. Really good.

If you're a fan of fried catfish and hush puppies or seafood in general, I cannot recommend Clear Springs Cafe enough for one of your casual meals.

ETA: Take a look at Huisache Grill for a little upscale and also Alpine Haus for some good New Braunfels German food.

I love Clear Springs

Best meal EVER after you've been out at Lake McQueeney all day.

I've never gotten the Grist Mill hype. The food is just okay.

Grist Mill is the shite

Huge menu, great atmosphere. Sit on the patio listen to some country music and have a cold beer. Then eat some badass food

Clear springs is great but it's kind of far

I love new Braunfels and gruene. Go every year. Enjoy

Also we love going to the grapevine next to gristmill and sitting outside and getting a glass of wine

Gruene River Grill is pretty good and a very neat area and building that the restaurant is in. I have brought many of customers there when I am in that area.

Grist Mill is ideal location-wise...

Could also just make it a Shiner diet on the outdoor benches next to the Hall.

Also, unless you're the camping out on the front row type, a great place to catch shows at Gruene are on the benches along the walls...can get a better view than in the thick of the crowd in the middle.

My stubborn arse needed to be on the front row for Reckless Kelly though

ETA: Who are you seeing?

Thanks for the recs guys. I'm gonna look them up later tonight once work slows down and talk them over with the little lady.

And thanks for the tip about the benches. I'm seeing Jerry Jeff Walker back to back nights. Figure we'll front row it once night and hang back on the benches the other night.

I saw Jerry Jeff a few weeks ago there. We enjoyed the Gruene River Grill. We also enjoyed Cantina Del Rio which is very close to the hall.

Also, Gruene Hall is beer only, but Mozie's across the street is a great spot to grab a pre or post show cocktail or three. The Reckless Kelly boys drank them out of Jameson once but JJW doesn't party so there will probably be some booze left

A bunch of good suggestions in this thread so far. Gristmill is a must when in Gruene.

Only things I'll add is to plan your trip so you can have lunch coming in to town at City Market in Luling, TX. That and Coopers are some of the best BBQ I've ever had.

Other thing is to go to Naeglins Bakery in the circle at some point. I know you said you got breakfast covered, but I suggest just stopping in Naeglins for a little pastry snack. The sweet German pretzels are delicious.

I was there for the last time Jerry Jeff was in Gruene not that long ago. He still puts on one hell of a show, you're going to have a great weekend.

There is a brand new Coopers BBQ in new Braunfels right by the Guadeloupe River and downtown

Great laid back BBQ and beer

Adobe Verde is good too in Gruene. I love that area, dammit now I'm gonna plan a weekend soon. Been 8 months!
