Michelin only goes to a few cities/states in the US. LA/NOLA isn't one of them.
They are expanding however, and just announced their 1st Texas stars last month (and Texas has a lot more money than us).
They were sniffing around last year and had representatives doing field work at places like Peche, Herbsaint, Saint Germain, etc.
Emeril is pushing hard for them to come.
Traditionally, they were only in places like NY, LA, Chicago, Etc

The Michelin Guides are a series of guide books that have been published by the French tire company Michelin since 1900. The Guide awards up to three Michelin stars for excellence to a select few restaurants in certain geographic areas

In 2005, Michelin published its first American guide, covering 500 restaurants in the five boroughs of New York City and 50 hotels in Manhattan.
It's become a huge cash grab.

The guide announced its first list of restaurants in Florida on 9 June 2022, after the state and city tourism boards in Miami, Orlando, and Tampa, agreed to collectively pay the company up to $1.5 million.

In 2023, the guide expanded to several cities in Colorado (Aspen, Beaver Creek Resort, Boulder, Denver, Snowmass Village, and Vail) that paid between $70,000 and $100,000 on top of a state contribution; other cities (Aurora, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, and Grand Junction) declined to participate. In September 2023 the Michelin Guide also expanded to Atlanta, in return for a payment of $1 million over three years.

Yeah its definitely a marketing ploy and cash grab for the expansion part of it.
They are now doing Hotels, and NOLA is a part of that, but I have some doubts about it being anything other than marketing.
Michelin is still useful to a degree.

I wonder where that money is coming from. Hopefully restaurant and tourism taxes.

We do have some James Beard award winners in New Orleans.

Probably a better metric of good chefs here in the US. I've eaten at a couple James Beard winner restaurants, and quite frankly they were better than all the Michelin one-stars I've eaten at, and one of them was better than even a three star I've eaten at.

James Beard has gone DEI the last few years. Really have to sort through em

I always thought Restaurant August got a star. Guess not

Nope, no one has ever gotten a star in NOLA. They have never come.
I'm surprised NOLA didn't pony up some dough to make them come for the Super Bowl

No offense the food in New Orleans is the reason people go to eat not the ambience.
I've had better meals in a hole in the wall then I have in fine dining.
The higher up you go that tends to hold true is Steak and cocktails.
I don't need a team of waiters to assist me eat. It is different experience but if you have money to burn the let it rip.

Texas and especially Louisiana has pissed away a million dollars on a lot worse ventures than a fairly respectable travel guide
