Why is yellow mustard often referred to as "prepared" yellow mustard in recipes?

Is there such a thing as unprepared yellow mustard? Has it not quite readied itself to be used in a recipe?

Perhaps prepared mustard is mustard seed that has been ground and mixed with vinegar and turmeric?

I have the same dilemma with "prepared" horseradish. I just want horseradish.

There is mustard seed, mustard powder, and then prepared (liquid) mustard. There are also a few varieties of prepared mustard.

Thus "prepared yellow mustard".
