Zaxby's VS Cane's

So I'm in Tallahassee meeting with some professors, and I drove by one of these Zaxby's; since I've heard that this place is similar to Cane's, I decided to stop in just to compare.
Price: Cane's. Cane's Box w/drink comes to about $7.00 w/ tax. Zaxby's Plate w/drink was $8.00. Now, you do get 5 chicken strips with Zaxby's whereas with Cane's you only get 4, BUT, you can get an extra strip from Cane's for like $.60, so even with that 5th strip Cane's is cheaper.
Restaurant atmosphere/uniqueness: Cane's. I like that when you go to different college towns, the Cane's there really 'does it up' with that school's periphenalia. There was none of that at Zaxby's - it honestly looked like the inside of a Cracker Barrel. They did have a signed Derrick Brooks FSU jersey, so I guess that's something, but they had it tucked away near the bathroom - you wouldnt know its there unless you drank too much of your drink, which leads me to the next category:
Sweet Tea: Cane's. Quite simply, Zaxby's didn't have any 'sweet' tea, which is a BIG mistake in my book.
Texas Toast: Cane's - and it aint even close. Zaxby's version of Texas Toast was a slightly buttered, over-toasted piece of bunny bread. It was turrible.
Cole Slaw: Zaxby's. I like my cole slaw creamy - like at Popeye's. Cane's cole slaw is too dry - I always end up substituting an extra piece of Toast in its place. At Zaxby's it was nice and creamy.....in the end though, who really goes to one of these places for the slaw?
Fries: Zaxby's. Don't get me wrong, I like Cane's crinkle fries, but Zaxby's were seasoned crinkle fries, so they get the nod for the extra effort.
Sauce: Cane's. Zaxby's sauce was just basically 1000 island, and generic bland Albertson's 1000 at that. Cane's sauce can sometimes be a little too rich (you're basiclaly drinking liquid lard), but at least its tasty lard.
Service: Push. It took the Zaxby's people about 10 minutes to get my order, much longer than it has ever taken me at Cane's, but the order was right, and the staff was extremely courteous - we're talking Chick Fil-A Friendly. You don't always get that at Cane's. You do, though, get your food sooner at Cane's.
Variety: Zaxby's - Cane's motto is 'One Love', but guys - there's more than just one way to do the chicken. Zaxby's has the chicken strips, wings, and *gasp* a chicken salad. They also had onion rings, which I may go tomorrow just to try by themselves. A minus, of course for not having sweet tea, but overall its nice to know you can go there and not have to always order the exact same thing.
Now for the Chicken:
'Fresh, Never Frozen' really and honestly does go a long way. I mean, this Zaxby's chicken is obviously frozen, and its obviously 'particle' chicken - it breaks apart too clean, a sign that its rib meat (with probably some lips and asses thrown in there) and not breast meat. Zaxby's also season's their breading with so much salt and black pepper that you can't even taste the chicken meat. Oh, and like Church's chicken - Zaxby's must bleach their chicken, because it's whiter than the 'pretty fly for a white guy' guy from that Offspring video. Idk if Cane's bleaches theirs or not cuz you can't see it from the meat color, but you can def see it from Zaxby's.
Overall: Cane's. Better value, better chicken. Zaxby's has some better of the peripheral meal items and better variety, but if I'm going to a chicken strips place - I want the chicken strips to be the best part of the meal and it is with Cane's, and not with Zaxby's.
....and I could give a rat's arse that Cane's is moving to Dallas, thats business baby. If we would have voted for Foster Campbell, he would have repealed the state tax and maybe Cane's would have stayed so I don't wanna hear any yammering about that 'Canes is a sellout to Louisiana' crapola.

best breakdown of these two I have seen yet. I personally dont like sugar in my tea so it is a push for me.
make no mistake this isn't the reason they are moving to Dallas. The franchise is being set up to be sold (IMHO) and Dallas is the place to go for that. I think it will lose some of its appeal around here and become "just another chain" to some folks. Also, I imagine the One Love slogan might soon be dropped because I have to think a few things will be added, such as the salad. I think most people are upset because it seems part of La is being sold and a bit of what we could claim as our own is now gone.

Sounds like Todd Graves needs to be teaching some classes at the EJ Ourso college of business then...

from what I have heard....take it for what you want.
Graves hired a new CFO, and after he was hired (possibly late during the process) the new CFO said he wouldn't move to BR. The CFO convinced Graves to move the operations to Dallas so he wouldn't have to move here. At first the RSO employees were told they were just creating another RSO in Dallas and it was part of the expansion, then they were told most wouldn't be kept around.
Now, Graves had to agree to it and think it was a good idea, just not sure if he was told one thing and something else is going to happen. Since it is still all privately held then I doubt something like a takeover, but it would be a shame to see the chain turn into something it isn't.
just my 2 cents.

Zaxby's has crappy Texas Toast, thats what this thread is really about.

The wings are pretty good at zaxbys. I don't like coleslaw, so I'd choose everything else at canes. I remember I ordered a plate then was like wtf there's no drink and that came out to like $6-$7

I was chilling out in Gulf Shores and saw a Zaxby's. I stopped eating fried chicken a year or two ago, but I was really tempted to try them just for comparison.
The rumor about Todd Graves is that he worked at a Guthrie's (where he supposedly learned how to make the fingers and Cane's sauce), so I was a bit more interested in checking them out.

So it's true? Cane's is the BEST place for overall chicken finger meals? I've got to get into the chicken finger business. If it weren't for the sauce and the fries, I'd never visit Cane's. Never. They need to reevaluate their chicken...it's bland.

Cane's was alot better before they went corporate.

The "buffalo blue" salad at Zaxby's is MONEY. I get it at least once a week
If I'm going for the chicken strip meal, I'd pick Cane's though..

All of Zaxby's salads are very good. They are restaurant quality salads. (Cost nearly as much too though, but 6-7 bucks for a good "healthy" option to go isn't bad.)

They bleach chicken...thats just not right. I dont care if the meat is white as white can be I dont want any bleach on my damn chicken. Gross.
Do you know of any other places that do this so I wont go there.
Please tell me this is not a common practice.

Guthrie's is pretty good. I use to live in Florida and I went there frequently. It's pretty close between Cane's and Guthries. Gutrhries is better on the fries b/c they are bigger crinkles. Other than that they are about the same. I'd assume some ideas were stolen from Guthries and used in Cane's development.

According to him its Zaxby's that bleaches their chicken. I have never heard of this but it does not surprise me. I live in Charlotte, NC so there are Zaxby's around here and I wont be going back. Just wanted to find out if any other restaurant/fast food place does this as well.

If another chicken place would open - that actually had chicken with FLAVOR, I'd be all in. I like Cane's sauce, fries, and toast in that order. Their chickern fingers have become one of my least favorite things that I will still eat - if that makes any sense.
