Elder Scrolls Oblivion and level scaling

This game has to have the worst implementation I have ever seen in a video game.
It's one thing to implement level scaling in order for the content to stay challenging throughout, but it's a completely different matter entirely to push players for leveling up outside of min/max leveling in very specific ways.
I used to find this game as enjoyable as Skyrim, but that was just turning the difficulty down to 0 and enjoying it as a power fantasy. Attempting to play it on its default difficulty, and it's hilarious how ill-thought-out the level scaling was.
I don't know if I would go so far as to say it ruins the entire game, but when your level scaling system goes against everything that Elder Scrolls is supposed to be about, well, it kind of does.

It's an old school game, and it makes you play a bit meta in order to level correctly. With that said, I don't use the vanilla leveling system when I replay the game. I can't remember the name offhand, but I use a mod that lets you add... I think 3? levels to any attribute that governs a skill you increased that cycle. Doing the max of 5 makes you stupid overpowered very quickly.
Simplifies things considerably, and I no longer have to keep a pen and legal pad next to me when I play

Just don’t sleep in-game. Problem solved.

It is a little messed up running into bandits wearing ebony armor late in the game. These poor roadside bandits could buy a kingdom with their gear.

Nah dog oblivion is tight

I never had a problem with the scaling. It's understandable, but I think it was a lazy implementation. The game was fun at the time. Can't always go judging old games with today's standards.

I’ve been playing the secret of mana remake and it’s pretty dope too

SoM is one of my all time favorites but I had a hard time getting into that port over to PC, which I hear is essentially the mobile version? Didn't like the interface at all.

Jumping in a river is fun.
You've never done that?

I love Oblivion, but the armor scaling for bandits always breaks my immersion
.
I remember my first playthrough spending hours fighting through Oblivion gates because my destruction and blade skills did not keep up with my leveling. I got wise and leveled up speed next playthrough and sprinted through every gate to the sigil stones.

Yeah it would always crack me up when bandits would pull up in full glass armor

Invisibility and high acrobatics. You could jump over a whole host of intermediary gates within the gate realms

Oblivion without mods is a pretty terrible game.
There are a couple mods that are overhauls which fix the leveling issues and make the game much better.

This is an awful take. Oblivion without mods is a great game. Oblivion with mods is one of the best games ever made.
