WARNING: do not install this game. It is the most addictive game I've ever played. You will lose days and time will lose meaning.
Anyone else play Factorio ? I'm on my third play through. First factory was trash. 2nd one i launched a rocket with, but things got ugly at the end with manual processes. Currently on a third one and about to automate purple science once I secure this far away copper field with flamethrower and laser turrets.
Finally figured out train signaling after hours of research. Only one way rails though, frick two way
The basic premise is you crash land on an alien planet and have to build a rocket to get off. There are aliens on this planet who don't like the pollution you create so they attack you. You have to defend your factory. The aliens, biters, evolve and become a problem. You have to tech up to deal with them. Guns, turrets, fire, lasers, grenades, walls, etc
Acquire iron, copper, coal, stone, uranium, oil; feed your factory with the raw resources; automate building stuff. Simple to learn, but also as extremely complex as you want it to be.
Great game for $30 on steam, but see my warning above.

I’ve seen some YouTube videos of some people that make crazy factories….I never got to that level but it is a fun game that takes hoooooours away from your life.

I had to quit that game. It was taking too much of my life lol

Tried a couple of times and could never get into it.

The 2k science per minute megabases are amazing. Trains everywhere. I'm in awe at some of the stuff I see on the subreddit.

Yeah. I've never had time just dissappear from me like this

The beginning sucks. It's slow and boring. If you make it to green science automation things get more exciting.

Bit more appealing to the eye

No, but in a similar vein, Rimworld and Oxygen Not Included can easily eat hundreds of hours of your time.

Try Satisfactory if you like Factorio...very similar but in FPS visuals.

i watched a stream of rimworld for a minute but it didnt seem like my jam. likely i didn't understand what was going on.

satisfactory does look good. I would enjoy being able to build "up" and not just "out". the 3d aspect is appealing

I've played them all listed (in addition to Dyson Sphere Program), but none of them scratch the itch like Factorio.
I have a yearly or so binge on a new save.

Probably - good players can set up whole "factory" type setups. Time/resource management is the name of the game. And you have to figure out how to defend the place with essentially a killing system.
The game is like an onion, though. Each layer has a different flavor. Want to run an aggressive colony of cannibals? You can do that. Want to run a peaceful colony of traders? You can do that. You just have to structure it that way and make those choices.
