The Xbox Adaptive Joystick allows you to operate a controller without having to use both hands, making it ideal for any players who might have difficulty using the thumbsticks on existing controllers. All the buttons are fully customizable, and there are a variety of 3D printable thumbstick toppers to customize the sizes, heights, and width of thumbsticks.
Looking forward to Champutee's review of this new accessory. Kid is hilarious.
ETA: Posted too soon. MS apparently also teamed with BioWave for some other "made for XBox" adaptive controllers. LINK

Next up is Byowave's 'Designed for Xbox' Proteus Controller. Available to buy now from Byowave's website, this is a highly modular controller that allows players to snap together individual, sphere-like pieces to tailor a gaming experience to their needs and preferences. Some examples include stacked vertically to resemble a flight stick or as a 2x2 layout with sticks and modules facing outwards. At $299 (around £229) it certainly doesn't come cheap, though.

Lastly is 8BitDo's contribution: the 8BitDo Lite SE 2.4G Wireless Controller for Xbox. 8BitDo regularly features in our guides to the best Xbox controllers and best PC controllers, and it's no surprise here that the brand's new accessibility pad has low-resistance face buttons, Hall effect thumbsticks, and a symmetrical layout for greater ease of use. It's also compatible with the Xbox Adaptive Controller and is purchasable now for $59.99 from 8BitDo's website.

Microsoft is also expanding its Xbox Design Lab service with 3D printable files for adaptive thumbsticks toppers. Microsoft is providing this service at no extra cost, and six thumbstick designs are available to suit a variety of playstyles and preferences.

I’m not looking forward to the sweaties creating controller metas, but with that said, very cool options for the actual target audience of physically disabled people.

Since 30 second gaming clips became a thing and every tryhard decided they want to be famous.
Some people spend hours a day watching videos and resding reddit just trying to get that edge.

I used to have a XIM for PUBG on the Xbox. The buttons were cumbersome, but pairing a switch controller with a mouse was more than worth the trade off.

5+ years ago? Maybe a bit more. The term originated with online competitive gamers which isn’t my scene.

Speed runners already do this shite. They "optimize" things to the point it completely destroys the purpose IMO
I believe Super Mario Bros 1 speedrunning these days is done primarily with keyboard controls, which to me makes it a complete farce.
They were making this controller for the disabled, but it may be more popular with the retarded (speed runners).

The term has been around for a while.

First time I'd heard it.

I used a XIM 3 occasionally on the 360. I grabbed a XIM 4 later for PS4 and XBone but it ended up being a waste because I would always go back to the PC version of whatever shooter I was playing.
