It’s a little bad on pc but playable. Good inside of buildings caves but lots of fps drops when in the open world.

Saw there’s already a couple optimization mods out and other qol stuff on nexus mods so I’ll be checking that stuff out later.

What resolution?

So is this a nostalgia play only or a good way to introduce my son to the elder scrolls?

I would say both. Morrowind is a great game, but it's really hard for modern players, especially young players, to get into. Skyrim is good for what it is, but it lacks a lot of things that the more class ES games had. Oblivion, while not being perfect by any measure, is a really great sweet spot in the middle. It's not as unique as Daggerfall or Morrowind, but it's no where near as watered down as Skyrim. And while it has some clunky mechanics, it's far closer to Skyrim as far as ease of play than it is to Morrowind.

I'm impressed with how they managed to make the clunky mechanics better while keeping the feel of the original

Combat feels really smooth

The arena in Imperial city is still the same. I bet like a motherfricker last night

I started it.

It's ok.

Once the nostalgia wears off, the game obviously shows its age in many ways, particularly combat. Idk how much I'll play it, but the landscapes look nice.

That’s where I am at. I am shocked at how much I remembered from playing 18 years ago or so.

I guess when you play something for 500 hours you don’t forget it. The combat still feels aged.

Elden Ring was my first souls game and it’s kind of broken combat in other games(Khazan raised the bar more) for me. Even open world wise. Elden ring achieved such a perfect ratio of rewarding looking in obscure places. Now when I play games that don't reward me for going to a back corner to check I feel let down. The world feels unintentional.

I still think within its generation the game was an absolute masterpiece. 10/10 game. For someone who has already played it so much the fresh coat of paint doesn’t quite save it for me.

Every once in a while, I consider downgrading my internet speeds. Then I sit down to buy a game that's 115GB and have it downloaded and installed in less than 20 minutes, and I remember why I never actually downgrade my internet speeds

Eta: Jesus, I think preloading shaders is taking as long as my download/install did

I’m really enjoying myself thus far. The old charm and bugs are definitely there

I only played missions as far as getting Martin to Cloud Ruler. The rest of my time has been spent doing what I’ve always done, fully roam the map and find most of the locations. I don’t have a ton of time so I’m only about a third done so far. The landscapes are definitely an upgrade and the combat is better.

Yeah I just fired it up while waiting on the switch 2 preorders and it took way longer for the shaders than it did to download the game.

Couldn’t agree more. I really like it, but it feels like a modern game slapped over a 20 year old game/mechanics, which I guess was the goal, but it just makes me want something more.

I have a feeling the 20 year old mechanics are going to get stale rather quickly because there’s better options out there. All that to be said, I applaud Bethesda for staying true to the roots. The entire play through thus far has been a very digestible nostalgic trip

I do think the cities feel more alive than most modern games with the way npcs interact. Doesn't have the dead city feel of npcs waiting around for me to come interact with them. Hopefully future games can use ai or something to get back to that.

Eventually some game will have completely alive towns, but itll start by having different personality generic NPCs that they make multiple copies for each personality and paste all over the landscape. They will have to be careful that some personalities don't start to dominate the towns they are in though.
