Looking into this for the new CFB 25 video game. According to EA, it is possible to cross-play with others online using different platforms.
Is this possible for other games?
Anyone ever have any issues doing this?
Is it a better experience playing online with users on the same platform?

yes, game specific though. Devs have to support it.

crossplay for CFB 25 will be for online head to head, not for online dynasty (atleast this year anyway).
Destiny 2 and Dead by Deadlight are some good crossplay titles

Correct - I’m really only interested in playing 1 on 1 games with friends, so it’s good to know we don’t all need the same system.

As mentioned it's on a game by game basis. Most games are cross play across consoles now, some games are cross play between console and PC.
One example is Overwatch 2. You can play console and PC together but can't play competitive lobbies cross platform. Only unranked.

From what I’ve read, it seems like most on this board prefer Xbox over PS5

Well Jim, even though you prefer Matt Mcmahon over Will Wade, you can add me on Xbox for some friendly shite talk while we play NCAA 25

again, depends on the game. Xbox has slightly more powerful hardware but the PS5 tends to outperform it thanks to more developer friendly tools + devs focusing on its optimization thanks to 65% marketshare
differences for the most part are imperceptible for practical purposes

This is mostly because Sony hasn’t really taken advantage of the PS5 outside of a handful of titles. Meanwhile Xbox has most every other game released on PS5 + a huge catalogue of games from GamePass. If the PS5 had the kind of exclusives that PS4 had then PS5 would be on top

PS5 is on top by a large margin
