PS3 making a sort of buzzing/whirring noise when playing disc games.

it makes the noise when its loading info off the disc.
is my blu-ray drive about to die? (this would be the second time if so)

It's hard to know without actually hearing it first hand but my launch PS3 has been loud as hell for as long as I've owned it. It's still kicking, though.
Does this sound different than it has with previous games? I know more taxing games like "GTA V" and "The Last of Us" seem to cause this behavior more than older games.
Maybe try blowing some compressed air into all of the vents and vacuuming? Might also try changing how you have it standing. If it's lying flat, try standing it on its side. Do the opposite if you already have it vertical.

My 360 does this sometimes too. I always install the game or just get the digitial copy if the price is right
