PS5 controller drift

Im sure this has been discussed on here already but i have had my PS5 for a couple months and was playing PGA2k and noticed the stick drift going on. I made the mistake and bought refurbished from Gamestop and didnt extend the warranty. I have played it lightly for the last few months and now that this is going on they wont swap it out. Ive done some research and it appears to be a problem on even the new ones. I can get it fixed from an electronics repair shop but whats to say this doesnt happen every 3 months forever going forward? Anyone have any input.

Maybe watch youtube tutorials on how to self-fix the issue?
I've taken apart and put back together controllers for all sorts of systems my whole life, often times simply to clean them and occasionally to fix something with them. It's not that difficult, assuming you have a precision screwdriver set.
The new high tech controllers are a little bit more involved than the old generation simple controllers though, so that's why I'd at least watch a youtube video of someone doing a teardown to get familiar with the process and to make sure you are comfortable doing it.

This is the solution.
The get by is if you have a game where you can decrease sensitivity or increase a stick dead-zone.

Buy a new controller and move on.

Buy a DualSense Edge, as they sell replacement stick modules you can just pop in.

Have you tried rotating the stick and blowing in it
Seriously, it does work if the cause is just some debris in there. I’ve fixed one of mine that way and it’s still going strong.

Unless you have experience with small electronics, I wouldn't attempt this on the Dualsense. There are tiny ribbon cables that if you slightly tug the wrong direction to disconnect, you can ruin your controller. It can be done. But in my experience, cleaning out the tiny sensor motors did not fix the drift. They can be changed out if you know how to micro-solder. The modules can be purchased online. I realize $70 is a hard pill to swallow for something that should not be an issue, but you are probably better off buying a new one.

I have four PS5 controllers and never had drift on any of them, but as someone who worked at GameStop a long time ago, I would NEVER buy a refurbished controller from them. They used to get returned all the time for problems like you’re having.

You must not play fps games. They all develop stick drift if you only play fps.

I play Call of Duty. I have the light blue controller and I haven’t had any issues…yet.

I've never owned a PS controller that didn't get stick drift from playing COD. You are lucky.

Yeah, I don’t think I have some magic controller. I’m pretty sure you’re right that it will happen eventually. I actually have multiple controllers specifically for when or if my main one breaks. I’ve been having an unused purple one for a couple of years now because the blue one has not given me any issues. I’ve only played this current COD in that time though.
