Xbox Series X idle data usage, holy smokes

This problem started at the beginning of December. I got my Xbox Series X on launch day (subtle brag). I was out of town for Christmas and I got an alert from Cox that I had used 75% of my data. I thought it was weird because I have never come close. Typically, I use 300 - 500GB per month. Then when I got back home I got another alert a day or so later saying I was at 80 or 90% of my data from Cox. I checked my usage on COX and realized I have been using like 50GB+ per day since December 10th. I also noticed that while I was out of town for 4 days I somehow used almost 300GB of data. I called Cox and asked WTF, they said they would do an audit and get back to me (never got back to me). I also reset the password on my router/wifi and disconnected all devices and turned on the traffic meter on my router so I could compare actual usage with what Cox was saying. I slowly brought devices back online and monitored my usage on Cox for the next few days and everything was back to normal using about 4GB per day and close to 10GB on weekend days when I might be gaming or streaming video more. I figured Cox sorted it out and just never called me back because they fricked up. Fast forward to today, I get another alert from Cox I am at 75% of my allotted data. Now that I have had the traffic meter on my router I can compare their claim to my actual usage. It is accurate. I checked my Xbox bandwidth usage on the console and the reporting is obviously all fricked up. It says I used 11,412TB in January, and have currently used 1,125TB in February (haven't played in February and only have 2 games installed on the system, PUBG and Rocket League, if you are thinking it is all game updates). So, it would appear that the Xbox is the culprit as it is the only thing that changed within my network since the issue started, and even though the bandwidth usage reporting within the console is fricked it appears to be using a lot of data even when not in use. Anyone else seeing this issue? Any ideas on a fix? I turned off auto updates on the Xbox, but I can't see how that is the main issue as I never had this issue with my Xbox One with the same two games installed and auto updates turned on.

Have you tried turning it off and back on

Are there any settings that has it uploading anything automatically? Saves and shite shouldn’t be that big, but just spitballing.

Microsoft collecting all of your data from all your devices within your home. Makes sense.

I doubt it is specifically game upload/download related as I did not have this issue on my One X with the same games installed.

So you are talking about the xbox being on while you aren't using it right?
Not like it's OFF and still using data

Can you set it to eco friendly shutdown, it turns it all the way off.

Sure, I can try that. I can also unplug the power or ethernet cable when I'm not using it. However, that doesn't really solve the issue of the Xbox using heaps of data when it shouldn't be, right?
I'm really just trying to poll here if anyone else is having the same issue, and if they are/did, do they know a solution. That way I can determine if I need to try to RMA it as defective or not.

Yeah, lack of results from googling the issue makes me think this might just be a me thing. I've started the support process with MS, which will hopefully lead to them replacing it, but they want me to try some factory resets first.

Try this and see what it says
quote:
Check your bandwidth usage
To check your bandwidth use, which is the same as your data use on an installed mobile broadband connection, navigate to the Bandwidth usage setting in your Network settings.
Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
Select System > Settings > All settings > Network > Network settings > Troubleshooting.
Select Bandwidth usage from the drop-down menu on the right-hand side of the screen.

That's the fricked up Xbox bandwidth reporting I mentioned in the OP. Says I'm using thousands of TB per month. Apparently, the bandwidth reporting has been messed up since the OG One. So, no help there.

Got ya. I concur it seems messed up or it factors out game installs. I only used 33GB since turned on, which seems off since I have installed 351gb of games.

I haven't seen anything like that kind of usage.
I have a Series X and PS5 and only doing like 1.1TB per month
