No idea where I hit it

Top of the face.. that was more of a rhetorical remark.. The launch angle and the severe lack of spin suggests that's what's going on,but that's to be expected hitting from the mat.

average 7 iron carry around 160)

Depending on what loft your 7i is that ain't terrible.. my i230's are pretty traditionally lofted and that's normally what I'm carrying with it..

When I found 7 woods existed it was a game changer. Hybrids are shite for me like irons

Yeah, never hit a hybrid well and I gave the 7w a shot and have loved hitting it.

So you’re launching your 7 wood higher and carrying it farther with half as much spin and same clubhead speed as a Tour average 5 wood ?
Sure I guess. But I absolutely do not beleive tour average 5 woods carry less than 240…..

Here are my driver numbers for reference. I launch the ball higher than almost everyone on tour BTW. Distance wise I am very long for drivers and woods. But not very long with irons at all

btw, im not saying you can’t hit it that far. Just that the combination of launch angle and spin is interesting.

I’ve seen that before. I watch pretty much every tour event on tv. How often do you see 1 player carry it only 275 yards with their actual driver, , much less that being the average. Just no way

I swing hard and up. Also, being a former serious tennis players, my wrist and forearms are strong and take over. Hence why I think my drivers and woods are long, but that becomes a flippy weaker shot with irons

This makes a bit more sense.. probably not getting good compression on your iron shots because you're getting too handsie .. While you can seemingly get away with it on woods it doesn't translate to iron shots at all..

Let me ask you this, are your mishits super chunky??

I don’t have many “mishits” in the sense of being really fat or thin. I make relatively solid contact the majority of the time to where I can’t say either of those come into play with any particular pattern

My biggest miss is an absolute moon shot that goes roughly 270 yards OB right into a house in Beau chene

My biggest iron miss is flaccid limp bannana fade with the irons

With his launch angle and lack of spin, his carry number seem about right to me. The problem is the 7 wood should spin more than mid to high 2000s. It should be upper 3000s to lower 4000s.

I struggle with this as well. I'm a low spin player. I'm fit into a driver that most people would spin too much. My 3 wood gets me borderline driver launch and spin numbers as well. Sounds great until you're trying to hit a par 5 from 240 and it rolls through the green because you don't spin it enough.

I wish I had his launch angle numbers though.

Back to the original question, a 7 wood is fantastic. I had a Ping G410 7-wood in my bag for nearly 4 years. It's still in my backup bag.

I'm currently using a TSR1 20° hybrid with a heavier weight in the bottom. It's basically a 7 wood with a shorter shaft, because it looks more fairway wood like than hybrid like. To me it's a spinnier version of the Callaway UW line.

Another vote for Team 7 wood. It really is a game changer club.

I have a 4 hybrid that saw zero service this year.

Bag at the top goes D, 4w, 7w, 4i. Sometimes I swap out a 3w for the 4w, depends on the course.

I have a 5w that is practically brand new sitting next to the 4H. Just don't use them.

Also, I actually do like to hit my 4i and hit it well.

That 7w launches high and lands butter soft. Such a good club.

I've never owned a 7w, but I love the 4h. Have had two and both were/are great.

I am surprised the two are compared though. I would have thought the 7w would go farther?

It depends. Hybrids can be finicky depending on how you swing the club. I love mine because it’s so easy to get the ball up and can save you on a lot of bad locations. I’ve got a playing buddy that hates them for the same reason, but he can hit fairway metal really well.

I had a three iron in my previous set, but it’s out the bag and replaced with the hybrid.
