My newest irons I'm hitting 120g KBS shafts and I love it. But my driver has the 50g Smoke shaft. I stupidly didn't get fitted when I bought it a few months back. I am spraying my driver all over, draw on one hole, fade on the next, and center on the one after. It's driving me nuts, I've always been solid off the tee. This is my first time starting a thread on here I'm so frustrated lol. I don't know if the Calloway just isn't as forgiving as my Ping or if the shaft weight is making that big of a difference.

Does anybody else use a heavier weight in their irons but a lighter driver shaft and have success? Or vice versa. Or do you stay pretty consistent for both?

Most golfers use heavier iron shafts than driver shafts unless you're using graphite shafts for your irons. Steel iron shafts are going to run anywhere from 80-130 grams. Graphite driver shafts are typically going to between 50-60 grams, for most male amateurs at least

I guess that came off wrong/unclear. I mean in relation to what is considered heavy for irons and drivers. I wasnt meaning does anybody use a 120g shaft on their driver

120g is on the heavier side for irons and 50g on the lighter side for drivers. Just thinking I probably should have been in the 60-70g shaft with my driver since the heavier iron shaft does much better for me.

haha gotcha

Oddly enough, I did have a buddy in high school (25 or so years ago) have a Callaway steelhead driver with a steel shaft, and he wondered why he couldn't hit his driver well. That thing was almost impossible to hit. That thing made persimmon woods with steel shafts seem light

Personally, I think that the Smoke shaft is crap, just my opinion.

Sounds more like a flex issue in the driver.

I use to play 70 gram shafts in my driver's for years. As long as your comfortable with the end swingweight.

It really all about flex and torque first for control.

Yikes

I'm sure about 4 holes in i'd be gassed out after swinging that. I'd actually love to try and hit a persimmons wood, I've never done it.

I have the same iron shafts in stiff flex and a 65g X-stiff driver shaft. I was fitted for that driver last year and it feels fantastic. My driver swing is in shambles at the moment so I haven't been able to put it to good use but I'd say if you love the 120g's in your irons, a driver shaft in the 60s will probably help you minimize those misses a bit more.

Not that I disagree bc I haven't had much success with this driver, just curious, what makes you say that? Though I do get more distance out of this than my ping.

Yea that's what I figure. I think there's just more going on with my swing with such a light weight shaft. Trying to correct it each swing and just cant get consistent.

I've never replaced a shaft in a driver just because I normally just get a new model, but this is only a few months old so I'll probably think about just the shaft. Ugh.

I have kbs tour 120 iron shafts and had a 50g shaft in my driver. I had the lighter shaft bc i liked the way it felt when I was getting my driver and hit it well on the range. I was too wild off the tee when I played though and just got a 65 gram for my driver and it took a little getting used to with more weight but my misses are much more manageable I find

I played a Wood Brothers Persimmon driver with a DGS 120 gram shaft for years.

It was called The Texan and it was a beautiful club .

Seems like it was 43 inches long.

I learned to play on persimmon woods. Still have two of them (the other two eventually exploded) and they’re still beautiful

Ok this is pretty much exactly my situation I bought the 50g driver because it felt good but it's all over the place now and my 120g irons feel good. What 65g shaft did you switch to?

That is pretty. Pretty awesome just having some phillips head screws right on the face of the driver

What brand shaft? I'm reading up on them now I'm pretty sure I'm going to change shafts, just curious what some of yall are using.

It's not necessarily the brand at all, but I agree with Bopper that I dislike the stock PX Smoke shafts. Just a terrible all around feel for me. At the same time, PX also makes great Handcrafted/Small Batch shafts that are a step up.

Sorry if I missed it, but which head are you using? Spraying it all over the place sounds more like a swing or flex issue versus a few grams of weight.
