Anyone played in a PGA tour Pro-Am?

I’ve been invited to play in the Wednesday Pro-Am at the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in June. Anyone have any experience in one of these? Advise? What to expect?

I played in the Barclays pro-am at Westchester a couple of times. It's pretty relaxed, played with Hunter Mahan and Chad (I forget his name, he was an up and comer at the time, think he lost the Masters in a playoff a few years later). Players are generally pretty reserved, but I've also had some give their amateurs lessons/swing tips on the course (older journeymen guys are more likely to do this). The caddies are where the real entertainment is. The times I played you could talk to them and ask them the kind of stuff you'd want to ask the players but the players can't really dish on other players. This was back in the mid oughts, and I asked about how the players generally felt about Tiger, Phil, etc. Said they all liked and respected Tiger, everyone hated Mickelson.
I think if you go in expecting a nice round of golf and not expecting a ton of engagement from the players, you might be pleasantly surprised. I don't think they really like playing in the pro-ams, but do it because it's required, so keep that in mind when you engage with them. I found them to be pretty affable if a bit reserved, but it's totally player dependent. Have fun and let us know how it goes!

I used to caddy for the St. Jude in Memphis every year when I was in high school. It was kind of hit or miss whether your pro was cool or completely stand offish from the amateurs playing with him. It was pretty casual, fun time, tips were great

Play it by ear, some pros are very nice and will treat the amateurs well, some are pretty standoffish. As a poster above said, the caddies are usually the fun guys that day.
My son caddied for one of Zurich's executives a few years back during the pro am and Brenden Dejong was the pro. I was working 7 tee and when they got to my hole I was talking to my son about how it was going and Dejong came over and talked with us. He told me my son was doing good and said they were joking around with him. That night I asked my son how it went, he had a blast even though the guy he caddied for hardly spoke. He did tip him well so he was good with it.

I played in the Adams Tight Lies Tour Pro-Am many years ago at Stonebridge GC in Bossier City. I got paired with Jimmy Walker who went on to have a pretty good PGA Tour career. We came in 1st place and I won a new driver. It was fun, he played the back tees (black) and we played the blues. There was another pro and another Am playing with us. We played best ball and I actually contributed a few holes, lol. It only cost about $200 back then and was worth it. I'm not willing to shell out over 5 grand to play in a PGA Pro-Am. If money was no object then sure but I don't have that kind of money, maybe if it were under 2 grand. I'm sure the PGA Tour Pro-Am has a lot more perks than a lowly mini tour did so I'm sure you'll have a good time.

I played in a Nike Tour pro-am years ago. Pretty nice swag bag (mostly Nike merchandise). We had 4 amateurs & 1 pro. He was the USGA Club Pro champion & was preparing to play in the U S Open. Really nice guy,
I would think a PGA Tour pro-am would be an incredible event.

I just played in the Hoag Classic Pro-Am on Wednesday. We drew Jeff Maggert, he and his caddie (wife) were very nice and walked he actually walked the course with us and chatted us up regularly. I believe Jeff said that he kept his PGA tour card for 25 straight years which is impressive.
The swag was nice as well, gave us about 800 bucks worth of stuff.

I played in the Houston Open Pro-Am for 6 years with my boss and customers.
I loved playing with Billy Ray Brown and Ian Woosman. Ian was hilarious and he really cheered on my customer which was really cool.
Played with Curtis Strange one year and he was a complete arse. He really didn't interact all round with us.
I cherish the crystal glasses and the crystal platter from coming in second one year.
I always wish that I could have played with Daly one year.

Played 3-4 Pro-Ams @ Oakwing(Adam’s Tour) & 1 @ LeTriomphe(Nike Tour). One Adam’s pro shot 63 during pro am, shot 20 strokes higher in first round, and missed the cut. Pretty good argument that most of the golf game is played “between the ears”…

LPGA pro am with Pat Hurst and the head pro at Orange Tree. Loved talking to Pat’s caddy. VERY insightful.
