I am going to make an effort to keep tabs on what I'm doing so would like suggestions please. Do you have to register with the USGA for a legit handicap or do any of these free apps qualify?

The Grint. Started using it a month ago. Very user friendly. You can take a picture of your scorecard and it auto loads everything for you. It’s legit

Re-upped my GHIN this week for $40. That feels abusively high to me.

My home course uses GHIN. I also use GolfLogix app to keep track of my scoring on the course as well as greens and fairways hit etc....

The grint is not free but I do agree it is good.

I have been using the Grint app for over a year. Never paid a dime.
The handicap is supposed to be USGA compliant but I have never played in any tournaments that require a valid USGA handicap to test it.
I signed up for Grint last year because I was planning on playing in the Lake Charles City Championship but I ended up not playing.
ETA: My app says that my club is Orange VII TG Golf Club in Texas. I guess that is the closest club to my location?
