Best golf courses in Shreveport area

I miss playing golf with my dad so I'm going to start planning monthly trips. Since he's in BR and I'm in Dallas Shreveport is a good mid point for us to do a day trip or an overnight. What courses should I look at playing?
Any great casino/hotel/golf combos we should check out?

Eastridge, Stone bridge, and Southern Trace are good courses. I don't know if you can play without a member though. As far as I know, public courses are not good so you'll have to get on at a club to get good golf.

Well I'm not going to join a club in a city I live 4 hours away from, there aren't any good public courses or courses you can play at if you stay at the hotel?
I'm not looking for some 5 star resort course just decent golf

You may be able to play at those not being a member. I'm really not sure, I would call and ask. You may also be able to get an out of town membership somewhere. If you are going to be playing there once a month it could be worth it. Typically a small initiation fee and low monthly dues so something to look into.
Unfortunately, public golf seems to be lacking for somewhere the size if Shreveport. I'm not from there though (about an hour and a half away) so someone that lives there may be able to help you a little more.
Hope this helps.

My order right now that you can play:
Stonebridge (don't need a member if I recall correctly)
Trail's End - Arcadia (60 miles east of S'port)
Crooked Hollow - Greenwood
Huntington (Public track which was remodeled 2 years ago)
Querbes (Same as Huntington. Not near as long but small greens)
Northwood (Good course but hit or miss on the greens)
Olde Oaks (used to be at or near the top but new ownership has let the greens go to shite.)
Overall the best value for that list is Trail's End. I highly recommend it. If a course of that quality were in Shreveport they could charge $70+ per round and have a good customer base. In Arcadia they charge $38 on the weekends and $28 during the week.

Actually good course with good value. I really like the layout, but greens can be hit or miss. They're never really that bad, but sometimes they are good and sometimes they are just ok.

Don't play here. It's literally a goat ranch now.

I would agree that public golf in shreveport/bossier is severely lacking. It seems to be a have or have not kind of situation. The private courses are pretty good and the public (municipal) courses have been somewhat neglected for some time.
Yes, Olde Oaks used to be good. Back in 2002-2007. I was a part of that course during those years. It's definitely declined over the years. Stonebridge ebbs and flows, condition-wise, but it's still a good golf course from a playability (shot value) standpoint.
It's my hope, that Huntington and Querbes are on the right track to being much much better than they have been recently. It's gonna take a little bit of time, but by doing the right things and having the proper equipment, things will be much better at both places.
How do I know? Well, im a part of that operation now and am doing everything I can to make things better. I grew up learning how to play at Querbes and Huntington. And now I have the privilege of making it the best muni that shreveport can offer. Give it some time. It'll be a completely different experience by this time next year.

This is encouraging to hear. It kind of amazes me that the Shreveport area has a couple hundred thousand people and the lack of public golf courses that could really help spread the game in the area.

So if I'm going to play a public course, or a course attached to a hotel or casino I am play without becoming a member, where should I play?

Southern trace is the only answer

Well, if you have very tempered expectations, then I'd love to see y'all come play at Querbes. With the understanding it will get better. I just started there a couple of weeks ago and it has tons of potential to make it a fun, fast old school golf course. It's been around for some time and has that golden era of golf course design. A bit outdated by today's newer golf course design and equipment, but it is what it is. Conditions will only improve with time.
Huntington is, golf wise, a better layout. Like Querbes, it's simply been mismanaged over the past several years. It's probably a little ahead of Querbes at the moment as far as conditions are concerned, and probably has a little more length to it as well. Both of those courses are gonna be cheaper, price wise, than anything else around. Querbes has a new updated clubhouse and the restaurant there has some really good food to enjoy after your round.
If you're looking for a more updated newer style of course, then I would suggest stonebridge. It's gonna be pricier, but the golf itself is probably better than the previous two mentioned. I'm not sure what the conditions are like right now...I have heard that they were having some issues with their greens, but I haven't been there in a while so all I can pass along is second hand information. It's owned by the same person that owns olde oaks if that tells you anything. I have driven by and through the neighborhood at olde oaks and I can tel you that it is a shell of its former self. Such a disappointment too. The layout there really is good and has some really good golf holes.
Back when I was there, it was during the year that Hal was the Ryder cup captain. He and David Toms hosted a charity event to raise money for the Sutton Children's Hospital. It was really cool to have a bunch of PGA players come and be a part of the event. Everybody that was on the Ryder cup team that year was there with the exception of Tiger and Phil. It was pretty awesome to be standing there watching PGA pros playing golf at my golf course.
Anyway, I would suggest one of those three, staying clear of Olde Oaks. It wouldn't be worth the time or money to drive out there.

Played querbes yesterday the greens were phenomenal. What the heck is wrong with Olde Oaks the greens are unputtable. I played there last week and it was riduculous.

I really wish I could answer that question. I'm not sure, but years of neglect and not doing basic cultural practices probably has a lot to do with it. I'm sure there's not much direction that's been given to whomevers been taking care of the golf course. I believe they've had some issues with the irrigation system which hasn't helped. And when the owner doesn't want to spend much money, you kinda get what you get.
It really is unfortunate for that place. If nothing else, get the greens in at least somewhat decent playable condition and then the rest of the course conditioning is not that big a deal. But, I'm not the owner nor do I work there, just guessing as to what has or hasn't happened for some time.

Me too. I liked that course. For whatever reason me and that course got along real well. I didn't play there a lot, but when I did, I don't think I ever shot a round out of the 70's.
Fun place to play.
Fun place to play.

I love querbes. It's a fun shorter course. I can play with the same ball all day. I'd say crooked hollow is another really good course that's open to the public. Olde Oaks went downhill fast, since that bridge went out that place has died. We typically play at northwood just because it's decent and closer to home.

The only three courses I like to play in Shreveport/Bossier are East Ridge, Southern Trace and Stonebridge.
Stonebridge is the only course you can get on without a membership. It's ok. Southern Trace is open to club corps members.
Squire Creek is near Ruston and is great, but it's private.
You may be better off going south and heading toward Houston. That's 4 hours from BR and ~3-1/2 from Dallas.
