Charity Scramble Ideas

Helping plan and run a charity golf tournament for a local organization that i am a member of. Have never done this before and wanted to get some good ideas for raising money during the round. We are trying to keep the upfront cost low and get participants to spend while they are playing. What are some good ways to go about this. Of course we will have your routine longest drive, putting contest, and mulligans. Was thinking of having a back off challenge at one of the par 3’s. Got a golf buddy that shoots below par when it comes to talking shite on a tee box. What else is there?

I know you want to keep up front costs low, but I would include the mulligans in the entry fee. There are 2 reasons for this. First, everybody buys them & you have guaranteed your money. Also there is no doubt on the course if a team bought or didn’t buy them. Second, as a business owner who has sponsored many scramble teams, I hate getting to the golf course & having my guest/client tell me he has already bought the mulligans.

Red blast (tee off from ladies tees)
50/50 cash raffle
$20 pp on a par 3 with multiple hole locations
$5 pp on the putting green for longest putt ( one location), winner take all. First person to hole it wins.

One of the charities I play in annually has a 3' string they sell. If you get your put lets say 6" from the hole, the team can cut off 6" from the string and call the putt good. You can do this until the string is gone.
Another charity has a vintage club challenge. You get to tee off from the women's tee box, but they have 4 or 5 old wooden clubs you have to hit with.
A ball throwing challenge. You get to throw the ball as far as you can and that's where you tee off from. Think you pay a few bucks to do this.
Mulligans should be bought at the beginning of the round, but also have someone circulating about half way through the round, you can have someone on a cart go to each team and sell an additional number of mulligans. Definitely need to put a max number on mulligans available at the beginning and then an additional max number bought during the round.
I really don't like the competitive aspect of charity scrambles. But I understand it's usually for a cause so I'll participate.

There’s a lot of good ideas already.
“Pull a Card” on a par 5.
Have the 10-A of spades in your hand. $20 to pull a card. In the fairway are posts with a matching card.
A-200 out from the flag
K-250
Q-300
J-350
10-400
You can pay and pull as many times as you want to get the Ace.

Second the Card pull. I’ve played in variations of this. Big fun easy money

Paying for strokes.
Basically buying hole in ones or eagles.

Maybe I’m the opposite, but I’d rather have a big fee that includes a great tee gift than every 3 holes being asked for another $20 or whatever.
So at a thousand dollars a team, you get a red tee, one mulligan, and entry into longest drive and closest to the pin on all par 3s.

Maybe have one par three be a reverse scramble. Got to take the worst shot .

$5 5 iron on a par 5.
Pay 5 bucks, tee off with a 5i. Play your 1st shot from where the 5i lands.
5gal bucket tee. Everyone has to tee off while sitting on a 5gal bucket. Paying 5 bucks allows you to stand up and tee off normal.

Yes it is. We are a 501c 10 organization

I would look at this entirely different. Make them pay up front and not at the course. You get a lot of companies who send employees out where they do not want to spend money on the course. You are losing money doing that in the long run. You can easily add money to the cost to play and have things included like mulligans. You are trying to find businesses not individuals I’m guessing so they don’t mine paying a little extra up front. It’s for charity after all.
When you keep adding things on the course you are adding time to their round.
The best thing to do to raise money is have a 50-50 jackpot. I’d say of the 100 I’ve seen 80% donate the winnings. You can also use this to buy an insurance package like a million dollar hole in one. I think last I checked to have 4 guys compete in a 1mil hole in one it was only around $600. Take closest to the pin on the 4 par 3s. Then find the nearest par three to the clubhouse and have them go hit.

Get the money in the entry fee. Most teams are corporate card paying for the whole team and claiming a tax deduction. Cash on the course is a lot harder to write off/get reimbursed so you will lose participation . I much rather no mulligans as it slows the round. Find a way to keep the round under 4.5 hours and you can charge whatever you want next year.

“Par is your friend” is another way to speed up the round.
At the end of the day, the top teams will make birdies and eagles so there is no need to play it out past par.
