Destin Golf for beginner.

What is the best course in Destin area for someone starting out. Wouldn’t mind driving to Fort Walton area? Trying to avoid lots of water.
Anyone ever play Shalimar pointe?
Looks like the 9 hole course at Golf garden has closed (sold for real estate development). That place had been there for a LONG time.

Regatta Bay. Kelly Plantation.
SanDestin also has 4 courses all in one spot. Burnt Pine is super expensive. Just google sandestin golf.
They all have lots of water.

Don't play Kelly Plantation as a beginner unless you just have money to burn. It's one of the most expensive in the area and a rather difficult course. It's very nice but I wouldn't bring my friends that are beginners.

Not so much worried about money. More worried about 1) going somewhere that mediocre to bad golfers won't be resented and 2)not hitting a million balls into the bay.
Have been to driving range at Golf Garden before and that seemed like a good place for people of various skills but they closed the course.

Burnt Pine from the tips

Seascape. Course isn’t special, but there’s not much water, cheap for Destin. Could also do Indian Bayou, much higher price point though.

Fort Walton Municipal Course.
We play all the courses there: kelly, Regatta, Indian Bayou, Windswept, Sandestin courses. If you want a decent course for $45 that's very playable go to Ft Walton Muni. Pines is the standard course and the other one is a shorter course

Yep
A good mix of some of the most wife open fairways in the world BUT some decent hole layouts as well

I played there years ago in a scramble. It’s an older neighborhood style course. Certainly nothing special, but usually about $20 on GolfNow.
Seascape in town is probably what you’re looking for or Links at SanDestin.

Indian bayou. Water is only a concern for a handful of holes and it’s a 5 minute drive

I second Indian Bayou

Rocky Bayou is not far away in Niceville. Fun course, always in great condition and not very expensive.

Indian Bayou for sure

I chimed in on an older post about IBayou a couple weeks ago, but when I played it during Mardi Gras it was in the worst shape I've ever seen it. It was not worth $80 more than Seascape. Feel like it's gotten worse over the last couple of years. I had been talking it up to my buddies about how great of a value it is, left apologizing for the condition and price.

Agreed. Son and I played Indian Bayou 3 weeks ago. Pretty good course.
We had a 5some one group ahead of us… at first I was a little miffed, then I was quickly reminded that I suck and my 12 yr old is just getting into golf. So that 5some wasn’t much of an issue.
One thing I was kinda disappointed in (w/ all the Destin courses) is that kids have to pay to play. Down at the beaches we go to in NC/SC, kids play for free w/ paid adult.
But still worth it.

Kelly Plantation.
You’re making this recommendation to a beginner golfer? Good gracious, how naturally talented are you and how naturally talented do you think everyone else is? The average beginner would have a terrible time at Kelly.

Great views. Hard Course. They had apples on ice in a wood Barrell on the turn. Most Crisp apple I have ever eaten. Expensive. Costs as much as TPC in New Orleans.
Sister just moved to a house in Indian Bayou going to play it in July.

I still have fun playing golf whether I’m shooting bad or not. This is usually when I start with beers. I’m not trying to make the tour.
I also suggested other courses that he can google and figure it out.
Hope your day gets better.

Fort Walton Municipal turned out good for the price.
$47 for 18 holes including the cart, with two courses to choose from. Most fairways wide open and good for beginners, but a few water holes to make it fun.
Only real downside is that it is north of Fort Walton so its kinda a haul from Fort Walton or Destin.
