He’s spot on. Everyone is in the moment, people have conversations with folks they sit next to, and it’s all about the golf.

Being untethered in that atmosphere is a great experience. Hope they never allow phones during the Masters.

I’ve never understood the need to film anything while at a live event. Do people really go home and watch some shaky video?

And what was one of the first things they handed him as he was exiting the course? A cell phone

It's not like he was taking selfies. Geez. The guy spent 5-plus minutes hugging and shaking hands with everyone in sight. I am certain he wanted a phone to call his parents in Northern Ireland before the green jacket ceremony.

His parents were probably a wreck watching that round and will be sleeping it off tomorrow.

It’s 100% about letting other people know what you’re doing. Nobody goes back and watches that stuff again.

I was at the Zurich one year and filmed a bunch of golfers swinging in slow motion.

Got home and realized the video still sucked and I’m not good enough to even tell what they’re doing

absolutely one of the best things about the Masters! Also why the live scoreboards are so entertaining. The crowd has no clue until they see it.

Those last few holes had to be a wild scene yesterday.

Met some pretty special people this year from all over the world.

Truly nothing like it, such a great time and gives you hope that all is not lost in the ever changing, arguably devolving world.

Augusta is as close to pure sport as you're ever going to get.

I wish every tournament had this policy. Not clear to me why they don't. It's a distraction to everyone involved and entirely unnecessary to have a phone while you are watching a golf tournament.

I like being able to track where golfers are on the course and what everyone is doing. The scoreboards aren't all over the course. Golf is a unique sport where it's impossible to be present for all the action taking place. I think it's dumb to take videos at sporting events or concerts because, as others have said, no one goes back and actually watches those. but in golf specifically, it's nice to be able to track what's going on around the rest of the course when you can only be on one hole at a time.

I wish cell phones did not exist.

It keeps people “on” and “available” to the nth degree.

I am a Luddite.

That's a good point, they really should offer some sort of handheld tracker/radio device like they do at nascar races

Rory’s parents live in Florida a good part of the year if not all of it these days. His dad is a member at Seminole amongst other exclusive golf clubs.

Def not all of it. He said on Sunday he was going to fly to Northern Ireland this week to see his parents
